Tuesday we, and 21 others from the park, toured Rio of Mercedes a boot manufacturing plant right here in the Valley about 8 miles away from us that we were unaware of. They sell wholesale - putting out 275 pairs of boots each of 4 days a week (10-hour shifts). They have a smaller hand/made plant next door that puts out about 75 pairs a day -- much higher-end higher priced boots.
Lots of work stations - stamp-cutting, etc. |
Storage area of colored leather -- every color you can imagine. |
This guy is gluing up pieces -- note the exhaust fan on top of his booth pulling the smell out of the booth-----into the rest of the room............... |
This guy is using a vacuum machine to turn the sewn boot (without the sole or heels attached) inside out after the sewing. |
Here is the boot in the picture above with it coming up right-side out. |
This thick leather (cut-outs) are for the sole. |
Sole attached - to be trimmed |
This is in the more-hand cut boot factory |
With very few machines running in this factory, it was much easier to hear our guide speak. |
About any type skin you can imagine in these special-order boots. |
I took another 162 photos, but won't put them all on here.

We ate at the Purple Onion Restaurant in Mercedes after the tour.
Phyllis worked at the Care and Share group (quilters) yesterday and we went to Meet & Greet at 4:00 pm and then Bean Bag Baseball at 6:30 pm.
Going up to the Rec Hall now for choir practice. Guess they have come up with a pastor to have service this Sunday and will also have some practice for a Christmas Eve program.
Then we will head to Sam's Club to get supplies for the breakfast she is heading up at the Rec Hall tomorrow morning.
Later, Lynn
