Ready for the National Old‑Time Music Festival

Well, we got rain - 2.5" one day.  Almost 90 degrees today with strong south winds -- as much as 6" predicted here over the next couple days!

Saturday we went to a birthday party put on by Teresa Minard at the "new-old" home she just purchased.  She had sold her house after her husband died several years ago, moving into a condo -- and now sold her condo and is moving back to her house.
Sunday took Judy Heuer to church and then attended her Sunday School after coffee time.

Dallas & Vena Glenn were there;
had not been able to visit with them
for some time.

Judy's brother Larry, and wife Linda had come from Oak Grove, MO; Judy's sister Jan and husband Lynn came from Martel, NE; and her sister Joyce and husband Lorne came from New Market, IA and we ate lunch with them at the Ice House a few blocks from our house.

After lunch we went to Judy's and they all went over a lot of old photos and memories of the Guthries growing up.

Today went to my local doctor and made plans for meds and aligning up with our doctor in Texas.
Last year's crowd in Fremont

Have the trailer all hooked up, plugged into electricity in the garage and most stuff loaded, ready to leave tomorrow just before lunch; will pick up Patty Steckelberg about noon and head for Fremont.  To be raining tomorrow, both here and in Fremont.  Hoping can get set up on the rock RV grounds and get a good spot not too far from the building where the music will be Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  It ends after 8 pm Sunday evening, so will probably come back Monday morning.  Is to be in the 60's all the time, with this cold front and the rain coming through.

Until next time, Lynn

Anticipating rain

68º outside with heavy overcast clouds.  Predicted rain for some time:
Seems like we have been quite active this week.  I rode 12 miles on trike yesterday, 10 miles two days before and 9 and 8 miles before that.  Haven't gotten out on it this morning, though did walk over to the hospital twice.
Sunday was our last time singing in the choir this year as we leave for Texas before the next time they sing.

The other day, after pumping up

one tire every month or so since it was
bought new this spring, I finally decided to
take it off and have it fixed.

Ended up they had to replace the
valve stem on it.  Would loose about
20 pounds every month or so,
hopefully won't need to do that now.

Monday evening we had our old
country neighbors over for supper.  They lived across Highway 2 and to the west of us when we lived in the country.  They now live across Highway 2 and to the east of us here in town.
Jim has had eye trouble for years and can barely see.  In the last month or so he has become nearly deaf and was unable to have a conversation with us.  His wife, Evelyn, has had some strokes recently and speaks very slow and hesitantly, making this very difficult to visit with.  Another old neighbor, who still lives in the country, Marcene Von Diligan, came also and did some "interpreting" for us.
On Wednesday good friend Mary Jo Herzberg came from Villisca and we ate at one of the Mexican Restaurants on north 16th street.  Patty Steckelberg, from Shenandoah, was able to join us later and all visited.

Judy Heuer, Phyllis' cousin, had us come
up to her place here in town and
wants us to help her put some old
relative pictures on digital.  She finally
agreed to write on the back of
them so when I scanned them I could
put that info on the pictures.  She will
try to get that done this winter.

Got a new anode rode for the electric heater in the travel trailer.  Flushed out all the stuff and put the new one in.
Then drained the fresh water tank and re-filled with fresh water.  Getting ready to live in the trailer next Tuesday night through Monday morning in Fremont, Nebraska at the Old Time Music Festival.

Took this while on trike

Ran the generator for a while yesterday.  Taking it along just in case we might need it next week.  Supposed to have electric hook up.

Looks like rain for us in Fremont, NE, also

Trimmed some on the bottom of the Juniper bush by the front door.  May remove it completely next summer.
Wild clouds this morning.

Will close off for now.  Lynn

Got Terry Smith here and he had a good show.

Well, where has the time gone?  Here it is 5:30 pm Saturday afternoon - overcast and rainy in Clarinda with temperature of 75º.
Last Thursday we drove to St. Joe, MO and ate lunch with Burl & Donna Penny and Harold & LaRhoda Neher, then went to the Penny's place and played Pegs & Jokers.
Neher's brought apples & cucumbers from Kansas

LaRhoda, Harold and Donna

Phyllis, Burl, and LaRhoda

We were getting ready to leave.
LaRhoda had brought a good apple pie and Donna added some ice cream to it -- delicious.
Phyllis' cousin Anita, from Ankeny, stopped by for a visit Friday afternoon

Went to the choir practice at the Methodist Church which was jointly with the choir from Westminster Presbyterian church, on Wednesday evening.  Was first time director Linda Naven was back for the season -- and last for us.  After we sing this Sunday, we won't be here for the singing until April -- 2020.

Terry Smith, song writer and entertainer, from Nashville, TN performed a program this morning at Westridge Care and Rehab Center here in Clarinda.  Phyllis had arranged for him to come.  Had a nice turnout from the residents and quite a few outsiders whom we had contacted.  If you were in Clarinda, but didn't come, you missed a swell program.  I videoed it and you can see it HERE

Been a good day.  This afternoon a classmate of Phyllis' - Chris Schindler came by for a visit and Tom Wagoner's brother (Can't remember his name) from Colorado - in town for his 50th high school reunion, stopped by for a visit.

More sometime when I remember to write.

September over half gone!

88º here in Clarinda, IA at 2:00 pm Tuesday.
Just uploaded video of three girls playing CLICK HERE from Maengo on Sunday.

We got gas in Osceola, IA Saturday at $2.23 and yesterday it was $2.31 here in Clarinda.  Phyllis just got back from the farmers market on the square and said it had gone to $2.41 this afternoon.

The ash tree between the house and shop is sure turning yellow and loosing leaves.  Assume it is just fall coming and not the Ash Borer.
I showed Jessica, Phyllis and Patty putting together a necklace with beads.  Here is the finished product.  Oh, and I put together some video of Patty, Phyllis & Jessica this weekend See it HERE
The Baumgartners have been storing their camper in front of our shop during the winter.  They had us over for a thank-you supper last night.  They will use the space again this winter.

Here are a few of the pictures of great niece Emma Miles - one with her dad Steve Miles:

They are living in Germany and said that Emma is picking up the German language.

These darn weeds won't give up!

GROANER'S CORNER:((   Two men are hiking through the woods when one of them cries out, “Snake! Run!”  His companion laughs at him. “Oh, relax. It’s only a baby,” he says. “Don’t you hear the rattle?”

“Moby Dick didn't have a funeral but he did have a huge wake.”

A tom cat and a tabby cat were courting on a back fence at night.  The tom leaned over to the tabby with pent up passion and purred... "I'll die for you".  The tabby gazed at him from under lowered eye lids and asked, "How many times?".

"Paint" by numbers - on the smartphone

Recent weeks I got into several apps of paint by numbers and Phyllis also picked up on it.  Our phones are tied together, so saved pictures...
