Colder temps and snow heading toward Albuquerque

October 12, 2018 2:00 pm.        67º with bright overcast.  Pretty much got the “boondocking” or “dry camping” figured out.  Turn off the refrigerator/freezer at night even though it was running on propane account the circulating fan in the refrigerator part near the cooling fins runs on 12 volt and think the compressor also pulls 12 volts.  Also shut off the furnace which has a heavy pull with the 12-volt fan.  Have been able to maintain the CPAP and any lights overnight without house battery running clear down.  One morning, before we left the furnace off, it would come on and go off and we realized the lights would dim at the same time.  Checked the battery and it was nearly down.  Before this trip I looked into getting two 6 volt batteries and hooking them in serial which is what is needed for long-time boondocking.  But, these golf cart type batteries cost about $139 each and would have to get two new container boxes because the 6-volt batteries are much bigger (that is why they have so much longer lasting power with bigger plates) which cost about $15 each.  Since this one 10-day boondocking trip is the only one we plan to take, decided we would get along.  Of course, with us being at an elevation of 5,300 feet we are in colder temps and they are even predicting snow for here on Monday ---- after we leave Sunday noon to head further south and to lower elevation.
We had cool, but excellent weather this morning and watched the balloons from beside the Escapee tent.  With mild wind going from the field towards the mountains to the east and then to the south.  At different levels, though they went west, also.  Had many land in the open areas near us and have some photos of the crew coming and folding up the balloons.

Went out to a laundromat a few days ago in the middle of the day and also to the home of Z-Coil shoes.  Bought a dress pair of shoes.

Last night the “Glowdio” with balloons inflated and lit, but not leaving the ground, was cancelled due to the winds.  We had not gone to the field.  We will use our last ticket to go to the field tonight when they are again scheduled for the “Glowdio” and hopefully it will go off.  There is rain predicted for later tonight, so hope it holds off.
Got word yesterday of our close friend Bill Winslow’s death in West Branch, Michigan.  He had been on hospice about 10 days.  Funeral will be Monday.  We are hoping Darlene will come on down to Kenwood and looking forward to spending time with her.

Snow heading here next Monday with cooler temps Sunday when we leave. and head south.

Have had a lot of great sunsets here.
