Fredericksburg, Texas - Luchenbach, Texas

61 degrees here near Fredericksburg, Texas -- had quite a rainstorm move through last night.

Left our winter home in La Feria, TX about 7:45 am yesterday.  We are now some 320 miles north of there at a KOA Park about 5 miles out of town.
Got here around three pm and set up the trailer then drove into Fredericksburg and toured some of the PACIFIC WAR MUSEUM (CLICK HERE)

This all came about because Admiral Chester Nimitz was born here in Fredericksburg and he wouldn't allow a museum be built without it
without honoring all the Navy.

At left is what used to be the Nimitz Hotel and in the 1960's was turned into the Chester Nimitz Museum.  The entire Pacific War Museum now includes several buildings, including one outside area several blocks away that has war re-enactments several times during the year.

We spent about an hour - it closed at 5 pm - and then we drove to Luchenbach, TX

There was a crowd in one building listening to some performer - we didn't pay to listen, just walked about looking at things.  This is about 5 miles south of our RV Park.

Fredericksburg was settled largely as a German town and still has several German Restaurants in it.  We shared a half order of deep-fried mushrooms and a Rinderbraten sandwich which were delicious.

. Today we spent about 4 hours again at the Museum - there are hundreds of plaques to various ships, and officers in an outside area

Well it took almost 3 hours to upload these photos - WIFI here is okay for checking e-mail, etc, but not much more.    We ate at a different restaurant downtown about 2 pm and then went to the Wild Flower farm near here.  Have lots of photos - but with the slowness of this connection will upload them another time.  We intend to leave in the morning and be near Chickasha, OK tomorrow night at a Passport America RV park.
More then, Lynn
