Cool morning!

41º this morning!!!!   Glad we are heading south in a few weeks.  55º now at 9:30 am.

Had our first, of the new season, choir practice last night.  Took three quick, too quick, photos during practice -- maybe Phil Tornholm will appreciate that the only clear photo has him in it.

We are practicing in the unfinished all-purpose room at the new church.  Phyllis & I will only be able to sing one Sunday and then for the Dedication of the Building service on September 24th before we head south.

GROANER’S CORNER:(( A little girl, dressed in her Sunday best, was running as fast as she could, trying not to be late for Bible class. As she ran, she prayed, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late! Dear Lord, please don't let me be late!" As she was running and praying, she tripped on a curb and fell, getting her clothes dirty and tearing her dress. She got up, brushed herself off, and started running again. Again, she prayed, "Dear Lord, please don't let me be late!...But don't shove me either!"

Boy Scouts from the city were on a camping trip. The mosquitoes were so fierce, the boys had to hide under their blankets to avoid being bitten. Then one of them saw some lightning bugs and said to his friend, "We might as well give up. They are coming after us with flashlights."

Off to Kansas today

59º here in Clarinda, IA at 9:00 pm Tuesday  evening.  Weather cooling off.  Has been good weather last several days.  Click on any photo to enlarge.  Feel free to leave comment -- I would enjoy hearing from anyone who reads this.

Was delighted when my brother Roger and his wife Carolyn came from Lincoln, NE on Labor Day.  Since I had gotten home from the hospital on just the day before, had several friends stop in to check on me.  Mary Jo & Oliver Herzberg had stopped; Mike Kurtz stopped by, Dale Fulk stopped, but he was actually bringing back the recumbent trike of Phyllis' that Dale's wife had been riding the last several weeks.  Gary & Michelle Walter had stopped at the hospital
as well as Bonnie, Steve, and Leland Brown and Judy Heuer.

Weather was nice enough that we had Roger & Carolyn eat on the patio with us and had a nice visit during and after eating.  Had not seen them but once in the last couple years.

Had heard other people said the Monarch Butterfly was migrating through and this one visited us while we were eating Monday noon.

Today we drove the 2 hours from Clarinda, into Missouri and then Kansas to Harold & LaRhoda Neher's place.  Played some Pegs & Jokers and then went uptown to eat at Gus' Restaurant.

After lunch we picked a 5-gallon

pail of Delicious Apples, and also got a couple buckets of red apples that Tim had picked the day before.

Enjoyed several games of Pegs & Jokers

LaRohda's flowers were still doing fine.
Their son Tim was getting the corn head on the
combine, ready to test some corn tomorrow.

We enjoyed the day, stopped in St. Joe, MO to do a bit of shopping on the way back and were home from the 100 mile trip, each way, about 7:30 pm.

Feeling good and getting things ready to pull the trailer Friday when we head to Spencer, IA to spend Sat, Sun, and Mon at the Clay County Fair with the Messers from Minnesota.

This is the last photo I took of my Dad before he passed in
March of 1978.  Tomorrow, September 6th, will be the 113th
anniversary of his birth.
GROANER’S CORNER:(( A man was just coming out of anesthesia after a series of \ests in the hospital, and his wife was sitting at his bedside. His eyes fluttered open, and he murmured, "You're beautiful." Flattered, the wife continued her vigil while he drifted back to sleep. Later, her husband woke up and said, "You're cute." "What happened to 'beautiful?'" she asked him. "The drugs are wearing off," he replied.

Wife: Whatcha doing?
Me: Nothing.
Wife: You did that yesterday.
Me: I wasn't finished.

A vacationer called a seaside hotel to ask its location. "It's only a stone's throw from the beach where the kids hang out," he was told.  "But how will I recognize it?" asked the man.  Came the reply: "It's the one with all the broken windows."

Labor Day 2017

73º here in Clarinda, IA with expected high of 84º.  A bit hazy right now.

Had some inquiries on exactly what I was in hospital for - Pancreatitis - inflammation of the the pancreas.  The pancreas is a large gland behind the stomach and next to the small intestine. The pancreas does two main things: It releases powerful digestive enzymes into the small intestine to aid the digestion of food. It releases the hormones insulin and glucagon into the bloodstream.
This will help explain it Click HERE

Feeling fine and even have lost weight since before going into the hospital.

31 years ago today (at least on Labor Day) we attended funeral of Phyllis' dad.  This is copy of photo from his drivers license that son Cameron carries in his billfold.  He had just celebrated his 69th birthday a few weeks before.

Expecting my brother Roger and his wife Carolyn this morning - they are coming from Lincoln, NE to visit us.  Excited to see them as have only had one brief visit with them in the last couple years.

Last day in hospital

7am. Had first full night sleep in a week, other than a couple pee trips.
No pain this morning, and just had blood drawn.  Hope to hear Dr Weir tell me to go home when she makes her rounds later this morning.

12:00 Noon update.  Got released from the hospital and am home on an actual computer.  What a deal!, typing instead of futzing with the fingers on the phone!!!and, can add some photos.  I did not have my camera with me, but did have my phone.  In spite of not being a fan of camera phones I did take a few shots and will add them here.  Waiting at this time until the download from the sky to my computer so can edit them and put them here.
First attempted photo,
Phyllis thought I should
aim it somewhere else.

Clear Liquid Meals.Friday to Saturday am

Was actually good meal--at least for the way I felt.

Dr. Weir said blood sample this morning indicated the troubling numbers from Thursday were back to normal and even did an A1C (I hadn't had one since May 30th) and it was within range for my diabetes.  The flair-up, called Pancreatitis, had subsided.

Was released to go home and had called Phyllis who was at church that  should be ready in an hour.  However, they had paperwork done I was dressed and was going to leave.  Was told I had to be escorted so two nurses walked me across the street to my house.  Not many patients get escorted home.

Labor day weekend 2017

They say the weather is great here in Clarinda, IA though I haven't been outside the hospital.

More blood drawn this morning and consulted with new, to me, doctor.  He pointed out several numbers that are going in the right direction.  Said that the Invokono I have been on for Diabetes for 2 years could be a possible cause for the Pancreatitis.

In the future if diet conforming doesn't keep things in line he recommends my doctor in Texas look at replacing the Invokono.  Dr. Wier did her rounds and was very much enthused that numbers are going the right direction and put me back on solid food and took off the IV.  They, only hours before, had had to move that IV and it took 2 places and 2 nurses to get one put in the krook of my elbow.   She said would check on me in the morning.

May get to go home tomorrow, will see.

September first

New month, delightful temperature--and I haven't been outside other than walk the 60 yards from our front door to the back entrance of the hospital.
Had abdomen pain since Monday night and finally gave up and got in by seeing Nurse Practitioner on Thursday.  She had blood drawn, urine tested, X-RAYS, prodded & poked, asked me a lot of questions.  Was able to set up for a CTC scan later in the afternoon.  Even though the Tech said that the info would be digitally sent to Omaha and we would hear in a few days.

By 5pm the nurse called, saying indications were an inflamed Pancreas, I was to intake nothing but clear liquids and be at the Hospital at 8am to see a doctor and probably be admitted.

Doctor went through the questions again, prodded & poked, had more blood drawn.  She explained that my pain wasn't at the site of the Pancreas, but the Pancreas is elongated and the part that was most inflamed, according to the CTC, was not far.  She had Sonogram of gallbladder done to rule out stones there, and had chest x-rays taken.

Was put on IV drip where they added some antibiotics, pain medicine, and some Glucose since I had taken all my meds as instructed; but, since I wasn't eating I shouldn't have taken the two diabetes meds.

Doctor said as long as I don't intake anything that has to be digested the Pancreas will rest and should settle down.  Said it could take several days or more on the clear liquids to see results.  They are hoping if no problems that diet modifications and/or some meds should take care of it.

Phyllis has been in and out.  I have punched this in one finger at a time on the phone and it's taking forever.  But, I've got nothing but time.
