Good weekend

79º in Clarinda at 10:00 am Monday -  nice and cool in the 60's this morning.
Saturday morning I set up to trim some
branches off the mullberry tree behind our house

Worked on a tree trimming job Saturday morning, then after lunch we went to New Market, IA -- just east of here.  They have 4th of July celebration activities starting on June 30th and ending on the 4th.

This is what an extension chain saw looks like when it is
pinched by a big branch.  Took some time with a regular
electric chain saw to cut it loose--its a long ways form
the end of that ladder!

Finally got it all loose!

A big gorilla moved into the neighborhood -- this is at a
fireworks stand about a block east of our house.

They no longer have school in New Market and the
old grade school has been turned into a museum

There was display of antique cars and antique tractors.

They had quite a few one cylinder "popper" engines running.
this green one reminded me of when we ran an engine similar
to this at "Loui's Place" in the 1950's when we needed water
at "Loui's Well".  It was even tended at night.

Many New Market area residents helped with the museum.
Talking with Phyllis is Mrs. Jim McAlpin - Jim sang with me
in the Plainsmen Chorus, and they winter in Pharr, Texas, though
we don't see much of them.

This is a side-saddle that was used by friend of ours, Dixie Fritz
in New Market parade in 1981

This is ribbon won by team in horse club competition
in September of 1960 that included Phyllis' dad,
Melvin Cabbage and her cousin Thaine Cabbage.
I don't know what the "Rooster Race" was.
Will insert picture of our daughter visiting a classmate
when she was here week or so ago.  Right now Michelle
is in Michigan and Tawnya is in Texas!
There were several coal mines in the area years ago.

Phyllis got to visit with a lot of people she knew from the area.
This old, old, movie theater projector that was used in New Market

I have typed many letters on similar typewriters.

Picture off Facebook -  Dick Quinlan, on left, was our minister
many years ago, his wife Yvonne in blue.

Great Granddaughter in a
very impish mood!

GreatGranddaughter mugging for camera.
Above two photos are old, but I think cute enough to post.
When at the Museum in New Market they had a "yard sale" of old donated items and I bought 10 VCR tapes of the 3 Stooges and am now moving them to digital and onto DVD's.  Also got several farm magazines to go over and couple of books.

More later, Lynn
