Fun day at Warren County (Iowa) Fair

Though we haven't gotten over (about 3/4 mile) to the Page County Fair this week, yesterday we drove the 120 miles to Indianola, IA to their Warren County Fair.  The main reason was to see/hear our friend Terry Smith from Nashville, TN, at 8 pm last night.  As it turned out he left Nashville about 5:30 pm the night before and with a quick stop in Hannibal, MO he drove the 645 miles arriving only an hour or so before his show.  The backup band were locals he had not worked with, other than once with one of them, but they put together a good show.  He thought he had someone lined up to work his sales table with CD's, cups, etc., but they didn't show so he enlisted Phyllis to set that up and run it.

Was more of a crowd after I took this picture -- all people of our age.
Some younger ones walked by and never even stopped to listen.

Couple ladies let their young kids romp around on the stage
to the sound of the music.
We drove Patty's car and stopped in Corning, IA on the way to Indianola at ate at the Primrose Restaurant.
A "red hat" group, in the background,  included Phyllis' cousin Judy Heuer who went on with us to Indianola.

This restaurant has been open only about a year and seems to be doing
a pretty good business; good food and reasonable prices.

Our friend Bonnie Brown was with the red hat group and visited for a bit.

We had a little trouble finding the restaurant -- this is their total signage!

displays at the fair.

One up and one down.

I watched the "pig races"  - they were runts and dwarf pigs
but seemed to entertain the crowd running for a reward of an Oreo Cookie

Must add this picture of cousin Donna Wieting,
now Mrs. Wally Jensen- in Watertown, SD,
married last Saturday.
Tuesday we went to annual summer picnic/meeting
of the Clarinda Circle 8 Square Dance Club.

It was here in Clarinda at Jack & Karen Baumgartner's

Planning on going over to the Page County Fair a bit this afternoon or evening.  Has cooled off considerably and we shut off the AC and opened windows couple days ago.  Kind of nice.

GROANER’S CORNER:(( One night, after a long evening of drinking, Jim was thrown out of the bar as usual. On his way home he spotted a nun walking down the road.  After looking at her twice he ran over and tackled her, then proceeded to beat her up pretty good.  Some people passing by spotted this and called the police.  As the police were pulling him away in handcuffs he looked back and said, "I thought you'd be tougher than that, Batman."
