La Feria, TX 64º -- Last Saturday was Tourist Day (the 39th annual) in Nuevo Progreso, Mexico. Rain was predicted, but we went anyway. Rode with Dave and Jan Engle (from Indiana) and Ed and Brenda Wood (From Ontario, Canada) and Darlene Winslow (from Michigan).

Made our way the 3 blocks or so to Rene's Restaurant and Bakery for rolls and coffee. Of course, huge crowd of people as this is popular stopping place for anyone "going over the bridge".
Ed Wood (in yellow shirt), Dave Engle, and Jan Engle in photo at left.
Darlene Winslow and Brenda Wood in center of photo at left.
Ed, Dave, Jan, and Phyllis.
We split up, and Darlene went with us. A ways down the street we spied Harold and Imogene Williams (from Indiana) and Doug and Betty
Salzwedel (from Minnesota) getting their photos taken with some mariachi singers.
The four of them catching me taking their picture.
Phyllis and Darlene coming out of one of the larger stores with free shopping bag for having made a purchase.
A recycled peditaxi attached to a 4 wheeler, looking for people to pay him to give rides.
A neat saddle in a leather shop -- along with lots of skulls on the wall.
In the same leather shop. This used to be a large store, but -- being some 4 or 5 blocks down the way we had not ventured down to it for a year or so -- and it was now walled off to really small place. Did get a new leather pouch to carry my glucose tester there.
A good sized dog as a sign over a Veterinary Pharamacy.
If you click on this photo to enlarge you will see a couple ladies walking down the street with some masks that one store was giving away.
One of the stages set up couple blocks from the bridge with entertainers.
Phyllis dealing with street vender on a plastic basket. (She did buy it)
Phyllis and Darlene with hats they got for buying something in this store.
Orchids at the American Pharmacy.
Phyllis getting our summer supply of some medications in Mexico where prices, on some items, are considerably cheaper. Darlene is admiring the orchids, at the left.
The main stage, just past the bridge, with entertainers. In just a few minutes after this picture the sky let loose with rain, and all was stopped.
With raincoats on, standing under some overhang to a store, waiting for the rest of our group, to head back across the border.
At Willy's (a barbeque and stuffed potato place) in Pharr, TX. We pulled up beside the Ferguson's who had been to Progreso, also. They ate lunch with us. Karen (Ferguson) Norden - in pink hat - and her dad Don Ferguson beside her. Don's brother Lawrence, and his son sitting across table from them.
Darlene with one of the huge stuffed potatoes. We had the same, only with BBQ Beef on it, along with a BBQ Sausage sandwich. Took enough home to have 2 more meals off it.
Brenda Wood took this photo of the rest of the group.
Sunday morning the choir gathering early to practice before the 9 am service.
Rev. Baker with his map of the holy land that he has been speaking on the last couple weeks. He has made many visits to the area and ties his own knowledge in with the bible stories.
Terry Steinke closed the service with a solo.
Sunday, after church, about 14 of us went to a Chinese Buffet in Weslaco.
– Ruth & Mervyn Stouffer, (from Ontario, Canada) and Bud (don't recall his last name, think from Illinois - was celebrating his 87th birthday that day).
Myself, Lavin and Jim Boozer (From Illinois)
Lois Sumner, at end of table, Pat Sumner (from Colby, KS), LaRhoda and Harold Neher from Hiawatha, KS) With back to camera is Gordy Mayer with Bev sitting beside him (From Reno, Nevada)
Coming back from lunch we drove by Siesta Village RV where Earl and Sharon Taylor (from Minnesota) have just bought this house, and will be leaving our park this fall.
In the same park we saw this house that Mike and Sue Donohoe (from Illinois) bought this winter and have moved from Kenwood RV.
Sunday evening, after announcements and ice cream at the Rec Hall, we played Pegs & Jokers with group. At right are Phyllis, Harold Neher, Lavin Boozer.
Bob Raab and LaRhoda Neher.

Lots of units pulling out every day. Not many scheduled activities this week.
One of the people across street who have sold their motor home that has been skirted for 3 years with attached enclosure offered me the lumber from the enclosure. Here I have some of it in my back yard, taking off the plastic skirting material and taking boards apart.
This was part of the framing that I took away from their shed.
Trying to get some stuff finished on the sun-room, or "Texas Room" and these boards put away and ready to leave week from today.
More later, Lynn
