Thursday at Malpass Brothers Bluegrass Festival

71º with bright sunshine here in DentonFarmpark, NC with predicted high of 81º today.

Earlier this week we drove the 5 miles or so to Denton, NC and looked around the town and then found a small family restaurant for lunch.  We then drove some 40 miles north, northwest to Lexington, NC.  Looked in some downtown stores then found an Ollie's (Good Stuff Cheap) store.  They have all sorts of close out, bankrupt, etc., stuff.  Have looked in their store in Ohio several years ago, I think.

Ran across this photo on Facebook the other day.  Recall Dad saying, not too long before he passed in 1978, that Alice was his favorite TV show at the time.

Had many hours of mighty fine music yesterday from 12:00 Noon through 10:00 pm last evening

Ended the evening with a terrific show by the Malpass Brothers and their band.

To be whole different set of entertainers today, except for the Host Band -- The Malpass Brothers.

Wednesday at Malpass Brothers Festival

70º with bright sunshine here at Denton Farmpark, NC at 9:30 am Thursday.

Last night we took part in the BBQ Chicken supper.

The tickets were pre-sold, with some also available for purchase at the time.  Was catered and we took ours to an area with picnic tables.

Was a half of a chicken, with cole slaw, bun, baked beans and a desert and included a drink.  Was a huge meal and many didn't get around all of it.

They had open mike at the stage
and got to listen to several good bands
that are not official entertainers
at this festival

Walked the grounds yesterday afternoon.  This is a big place and has advertised as 500 camping sites.  Units were rolling in and lots of spaces new covered.

At the The Malpass Brothers Bluegrass & Country Festival

73º here near Denton, NC at 12 Noon Wednesday.  Bright sunshine with 77º predicted high for the day.

Want to show the size of the crowd/tent
at Little Roy & Lizzy's Music Festival near Lincolnton, GA last week.

I am guessing that over 800 people were in attendance there.  Many camped, and many drove in for each day's performance.

One day before the Festival started there, we drove some 40 miles south of Lincolnton to Harlem, GA where Oliver Hardy, of Laurel & Hardy fame, was born and there is a small museum there which is in a former theater and combined with museum about the city of Harlem along with their welcome center.

On Sunday we ate lunch at At Glory House Café in
Lincolnton, GA after packing up at the grounds of the Festival and then drove to Greenwood Lake State Park near Greenwood, South Carolina where we spent Sunday night.  Monday we drove the 160 miles or so on to Denton Farmpark where we are now some 5 miles from Denton, North Carolina.

This place has a big building with permanent benches in it.  We staked out our place on about the 7th row near center aisle with blankets when we got here.  Many had already put cushions or blankets out.

Tonight we go to a BBQ supper and then 3 days of music.  Here are the three days schedules:

Little Roy & Lizzy Music Festival

58º with heavy overcast and light mist near Lincolnton, Georgia at 9:00 am Saturday.  Watching coronation of King of England on TV.  Spent last two days from 12 Noon to 10:30 pm at one of the best Festivals we have attended.

Just spent 10 minutes trying to load a photo and it failed.  Though we have good phone reception, the hotspot off it is excruciatingly slow.

Thursday morning we drove some 45 miles south of here to view the Oliver Hardy Museum -- he was born in Harlem, GA.  Have lots of photos, but will have to try them later.

Saw and listened to Marty Stewart Thursday night and Gene Watson last night.  Twice today Rhonda Vincent, and she performed with Watson, also.  Of course, Little Roy & Lizzy perform twice each day.

When have faster connection will upload photos.  Today is last day of this festival and we move to a state park in South Carolina tomorrow before going on to Denton, North Carolina on Tuesday for the Malpass Brothers Festival.

Arrived at Lewis Family Homeplace near Lincolnton, Georgia

63º and very still at 7:30 pm on Tuesday near Lincolnton, GA.  Winds of over 40 mph this afternoon.  We arrived at the camping area for the Little Roy & Lizzy Music Festival.

Labyrinth of hoses & electric cords.  Lots of units here now and many more to come.  Show actually starts Thursday and runs through Saturday night.
Will get a chance to set our chairs in the big tent (which seats 2 or 3 hundred) tomorrow after drawing numbers in the morning and then setting chairs according to numbers we get at 2 in the afternoon.

We are hoping to go to The Harlem Museum and Welcome Center, Home of the Laurel & Hardy Museum in Harlem, Georgia, which is about 45 miles from here sometime this week.  Oliver Hardy was born in this town in 1892.  Stan Laurel was born in Great Britain.

We are within walking distance of the big tent where all the entertainers will be.

Had a real chatty couple with us at a Chicken place in Murfreesboro, GA yesterday noon as we were driving the 440 miles from Cape Girardeau, MO to Adairsville, GA where we stayed all night.  This couple lived local there, and had travelled with a Class A RV a lot and attended a lot of Bluegrass Festivals.

After taking Don & Vicki to church Sunday morning, we ate with them at the main dining room at the Chateau.

Played another game of Dominoes with them in the late afternoon, and said good by to them until probably sometime in July when we hope to get back to Cape Girardeau.

This is what Don & Vicki can see out their apartment window.

This is the window to their apartment.  They are on the south side of the building.

This view is of their wing, on the north side.

Played several games of Dominoes with them while we were with them Friday, Saturday & Sunday.  Don gets along pretty good, with some prodding and reminders of it being his turn, etc.

Will sign off for now.
