March 24th

Jumpin' horned toads!  It's been almost a week since I have posted!  Have had some hot days, A/C running some days, but windows open and fan pulling in air overnight last night.  74º now at 7 am Saturday, to get to 88º this afternoon.  Click on photos to enlarge.

Juan sent me a photo of the St. Patrick's Day meal

After having the wire and conduit bought
only 3 years I finally got around to wiring
the breaker box in the Texas Room to the
100 Amp box on east side of the trailer.

Making some progress

Where conduit runs under the mobile home

working on it.

Complete at the meter/100 Amp box.

Trying some new music and we gathered in a circle so
could hear each other better.

Tuesday turned out to be our last, of the 2017-2018 season practice for the Men of A-Chord in McAllen.  Small gathering and about half of them are leaving before next Tuesday.

Working on breaking up some 2"x4"s and 4" x 4"s that salvaged
some 4 or 5 years ago.

Wednesday evening we had our last, of the season, pot-luck supper at the hall.  Good turn out, especially considering number of people left at the park.

Thursday afternoon was last Meet & Greet of the season.

Thursday evening was a fish fry at our place with fish provided by Ed Stanger.  Bev and Ron, Dick and Deane and we had helped Ed get his trailer hooked up the day he pulled out, so we used up some of the fish he had caught near South Padre Island and had left in the Rec Hall Kitchen Freezer.

Playing some game called 65

Friday morning at our last Choir Practice.

Sunset in the park one evening.

Monday evening I took Bill Winslow's car out onto 506 to
load onto the auto carrier to ship home to Michigan.

Wednesday was Winter Texan Appreciation Day in Progreso, Mexico.  We left the Park before 8 am and spent several hours in Progreso.
Some people dressed a little goofy - note the couple in the "grass skirts"

Ate rolls and coffee in a very crowded Rene's Bakery

Man on the right is Mike Todd, who was Activity Director
in our park for couple years, several years ago.

There were vendors in the street for the first 7 or 8 blocks from the bridge.

Several bunches of performers -- with pails for collecting tips.

This little girl was helping her dad with his booth.

One patrol unit was present on the street.

One of several food carts being pushed up and down the street.

In a store where you got a straw hat if you made a purchase

There are a couple of the straw hats.

Dick being interviewed by what appeared to be a English learning
class of Mexican girls.

I was leading the way on going back over the bridge before 11 am.

Steady crowd coming across to Mexico just before 11 am.

Pretty good line at Customs, though we went right through on a
separate line that took Passports.  Many of the other Latinos waited in line.
Moved this pile of 2" x 4"s for first time in 4 years - cleaned
up for bug-man to spray

Electric conduit in and electricity hooked up properly to breaker box,
behind the wooden door in upper center of photo.

I trimmed this bush and cleaned up the pin-cushion cactus pieces
that had been cut off a month ago and left to dry.

Some trimming to these cactus plants.

Ready for the summer -- wonder how much it will grow

You can see the brown at the edges of the
ridges on this cactus - assume it was from when
we had freezing weather in January.

Interesting clouds as I was taking clippings to dump.

You can go ahead and hit this

Going to go to Weslaco in a bit to the Onion Festival on this Saturday.  Will be moving our small travel trailer up near the door to start moving things into it so we can head north next weekend.

GROANER’S CORNER:((  A well-worn one dollar bill and a similarly distressed twenty dollar bill arrived at a Federal Reserve Bank to be retired. As they moved along the conveyor belt to be burned, they struck up a conversation.   The twenty dollar bill reminisced about its travels all over the county. "I've had a pretty good life," the twenty proclaimed. "Why I've been to Las Vegas and Atlantic City, the finest restaurants in New York, performances on Broadway, and even a cruise to the Caribbean.""Wow!" said the one dollar bill. "You've really had an exciting life!"
"So tell me," says the twenty, "where have you been throughout your lifetime?"  The one dollar bill replies, "Oh, I've been to the Methodist Church, the Baptist Church, the Lutheran Church ..."   The twenty dollar bill interrupts, "What's a church?"

Old is when...

You don't care where your spouse goes, just as long as you don't have to go along.

You are cautioned to slow down by the doctor instead of by the police.

Someone mistakes you for a sun-dried tomato while you're shopping at the grocery store.

When my son graduated from high school, he had to give a speech. He began by reading from his prepared text.  'I want to talk about my mother and the wonderful influence she has had on my life,' he told the audience. 'She is a shining example of parenthood, and I love her more than words could ever do justice.'  At this point he seemed to struggle for words. After a pause, he looked up with a sly grin and said, 'Sorry, but it's really hard to read my mother's handwriting.'

Till next time, Lynn
