Still warm in the Valley!

Well, it is 87 degrees with overcast sky here in La Feria, Texas -- "feel like" of 97 degrees with the high humidity.  Oh, the forecast is for 86 to be the high for the day.
Trees in front of the Miles Clarinda home

Our neighbor in Clarinda, IA - Jan Farrens - was kind enough to send a photograph of what the trees in our front yard look like today.  Good color.  I see by Wunderground that it is 75 degrees there in Clarinda and she said it is a beautiful day there.

Yesterday we picked up neighbors Darlene and Bill Winslow at the airport - they flew in from Michigan - and after eating supper at Gatti's Pizza we dropped them off at their place.
Then they and neighbors Marion and Ardel Finken came over to watch the 7th game of the World Series.  Both of these couples will have their cable hooked up later in the week, but have no TV now.  The game went so long they both went home before it was over.  I did stay up until the rain-delayed game ended after 10 innings with the Chicago Cubs winning 8-7 over the Cleveland Indians.

Driver's side window on Winslow's car

Winslows wanted us to pick them up at the airport in their car.  I had hooked up the battery and started the engine, but found the window on driver's side (to the outside of their carport) was shattered.  Only the plastic layer in the middle was holding it together.  Apparently a BB shot or something had hit the window.  Bill lined up to have it replaced tomorrow at shop in Harlingen.
Winslow's gathering groceries at Walmart

Since they couldn't drive their car, this morning I drove Bill & Darlene to What a Burger for breakfast, then to the glass shop, Walmart and Time Warner for them to re-start their television service.  Having to fill the house for first time it took two carts.

Yesterday I took this cactus out of the rain gutter on top of our "Texas Room" - replanted it by one of my other cactus's.  Also pulled the roots up right by this of a very long vine that had dropped down over the windows of the Texas Room and across and most of the way up another window.  I planted it near the cactus also, though Phyllis says it is just a weed.  Will see if it survives and if does and appears to try to strangle the cactus I wrapped it around can allays cut it then.

Cut-out with hack saw
Yesterday neighbor Ardel wanted me to cut a slot out of two of the brackets that holds a basket on the back of his pedal-gizmo.  Took a bit, but I got both of them cut.

This afternoon I worked on removing a bi-fold mirror door in bathroom closet which houses their washer-dryer.  The washer she wants to replace the defunct one is 25" wide and with the door in place only had 24".  Discovered how to take it off so have plenty of room now.  They won't be down here until after Thanksgiving and maybe can get the washer in place before, if they have one shipped in.

Phyllis has been working down at the Rec Hall kitchen all day with the cleaning lady.  After it has sat all summer and with remodeling being done in the main hall it needed spiffing up.  She found several evidences of mouse and bug work and the new maintenance man will cover the mouse damage holes.
Will see what tomorrow brings.
