31 degrees this morning

It is 39 degrees here at 11:00 am Saturday as I start this.  Still 14 mph winds out of the north, but bright sunshine.
My spinach last night - did not cover this.
My spinach a few minutes ago - not too good!

Lettuce - taken last evening.

Covered the tomato cage - will take it off when it gets a little warmer.

Ate at the Longhorn Restaurant with Bill and Darlene Winslow yesterday afternoon.  Shaved prime rib
sandwich and cheese soup with broccoli.  Delicious.
Usual things going on - stretching exercises at 8 am - Thursday took materials from shed to Red Hall for ladies to make quilts - Thursday evening Bean-Bag Baseball - usually Meet & Greet at 4:00 pm on Thursday, but this week we went to Jack's Memorial Service instead.  Friday morning we had choir practice.  Guess there is a program this evening - Entertainer from Branson, MO.  We are scheduled for a tour of one of the local TV stations next week.

Color Guard at Jack Norden's Memorial Service   Click that link and you will see the Navy Color Guard at the close of the Memorial Service for Jack Norden who passed away last week.
He and his wife Karen lived in this park for many years until they bought a house a couple miles from here 2 years ago.  Her dad and his brother still spend winters here in Kenwood RV Park.  This is photo of a photo on display at the Memorial Service at the Methodist Church here in La Feria this Thursday.  Jack put on the Friday Jam Session here for years.

Foggy mornings and hot afternoons........until later this week.

67º and heavy fog advisory still in effect as I start this blog at 10:10 am on Tuesday. As you can see by the chart at right, is to get a bit "colder" in a few days.
Phyllis is up at the Rec Hall at the first Craft Show of the season.  Will be going to Walgreen's after bit -- today is first Tuesday of the month and Old Geezer discount of 20% applies today.
Though there was a party (at 5:00 pm) up at the Rec Hall on New Years Eve, we went to neighbors Bob & Bobbi Raab where three different kinds of soup were brought in and we all had good food and good company.  Donavan Geisking - son of Butch Geisking drove in just in time for soup.  They are at the left of this photo and Bob Raab, Phyllis and Bobbi Raab.

Harold Neher enjoying his soup.
LaRhoda Neher getting some soup, with Donavan Geisking beside her.

After soup we played several games of Pegs and Jokers and munched on candy, etc.

Was a bit muggy - this photo was taken about 9:15 am Monday morning.  As the temperature come up the humidity does go down.  By noon the humidity was around 65 and temperature at 82º.

Gradually getting things together about the Shopsmith - though haven't actually used it yet.
My college teams didn't do so well in the bowl games.  Watched Nebraska lose on Saturday to Tennessee and then yesterday watched Iowa get beat.
Took out the aluminum sheets that had been stored under the trailer for last 5 years.  They, and 8 steel sheets I had in the Texas Room were picked up yesterday by a local repair guy (he had poured my cement for the extension to the carport before I built the enclosed room under.

More, maybe, later.  Lynn

If you want it done in 2016----do it today!

58º as I start this at 9:00 am - was 54º when woke up - predicted high of 70º today.
Everyone bundled up with this comparative cold spell - been record setting upper 80's the last several days.

Click on any photos to enlarge - leave any comments at the end of this post.

The lower end of the car-port roof is made in a dumb way -- the outer frame is also the gutter and the roof sheets come down to within an inch of the edge of that frame, and the sheets are not on the bottom of that frame, but about 1/3 of the way from the bottom.
Fine for water to get through, but anything like leaves or other debris gets in and plugs them up.  You see, around the park, many things like cactus, bushes and small trees growing up from this cockeyed setup.
After having cleaned them out, with bent wire hanger, bent spoon, tried the vacuum, but the small hose plugs up with the leaves; I am cobbling up a wire screen over the end.  Will see how this goes.

The park has had 5 or 6 Asplundh tree trimming service trucks in the park most of the week, trimming the trees and grinding up all they cut in the huge grinders and blowing the chips into the truck to haul off.  We have had some palm fronds fall on electric wires in the recent past and I thought they would trim them, also, but don't think they can reach that high.  Someone said they have guys shiny up the trees to do that trimming.

Well, I got distracted and it is now 7:50 am on Saturday morning.  Outdoor temp is 60 degrees with predicted high today of 80º.  Off with the long pants and back on with the short pants today.  After going to choir practice yesterday morning I took Phyllis over to the mall to spend the day with some friends and I puttered around here and watched the Nebraska-Tennessee Music City Bowl game.  Tennessee played much better than the Huskers and won the game.  Watched the Orange Bowl later, between looking at the weekly Gold Rush show on the Discovery Channel.

The straight line in this photo is the trunk of a tall palm tree at our back fence.  The bent fir-like tree in front is bending quite a bit as the cold front came through yesterday.  Of course this cold front only got things in the 60's, but was a change.

Sunrise yesterday morning from our front driveway.  I took this and posted it in response to a posting of Iowa Sunrise son Cameron put on Facebook.

Here us the photo he posted from Keystone, Iowa.  Lots more color in his photo, and, I suspect, a little cooler of temperature.

I just checked properties on my photo's and found I have 17,652 pictures taken (or copied from the internet) for 2017.  720 were taken in December.  We started December in Missouri at the time of death of my niece, Jenny, and covered a lot of miles and were part of quite a few events during the month.

This week I passed the number of days being alive that my Dad lived, as have my older two brothers.  Since he and his siblings all died at or before getting to be 73 years of age, it was always a thought.  Of course, many of Mom's siblings lived in to their 90's, even though she passed at age 79.

Foggy every morning, hot every afternoon!

74º as I start this at 10:30 am Wednesday.  Sun is trying to come through the heavy fog.
This rather poor photo was taken of our indoor-outdoor
thermometer at about 4 pm yesterday afternoon.

Christmas day our son, Cameron, called on one phone about the same time our daughter, Michelle, called on the other phone.  I put them both on speaker and the 4 of us had a short visit.

Monday afternoon we rode our trikes to the Yellow Rose RV Park a few blocks north of us.  They had a small gathering.  Coy, playing the do-bro, in this photo is staying in our park and his wife said he plays at a jam on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, but takes the other three days off.
If we were to get a dog, this
would be the kind -- no barking, no
feeding, and no cleaning up after!

Couple mornings ago as I was riding the trike, I took this
photo in the foggy morning showing the birds all parked and not flying.
Slept with the windows open last night - low this morning was 68º, but it was nearly 90% humidity, so closed up the house and turned on A/C for the day -- sun gets out and with the high humidity is a little uncomfortable outside.  Have been going to the 8:00 am "chair" exercises at the Rec Hall lately.  Put on about 3.5 miles on the trike before and after, but now will wait until after dark this evening.

Day after Christmas

82º but overcast and not too hot here in La Feria, TX as I start this at 4:32 pm.

On Christmas eve we both sang in the choir and Phyllis did a reading as part of the program.
We again sang in the choir in church services on Christmas morning and then helped set up tables and chairs for the 135 people who had a shared-dish dinner with ham and turkey provided by the RV Park.  I took no pictures of Saturday evening, but these are as we were getting ready to eat Sunday noon.

Most of the ladies set up tables with table coverings and fancy service, etc.
A great meal with many, many choices of food.
Loafed in the afternoon - went to neighbor RV Park today to their Monday Bluegrass Jam.

Still warm here

72º with light rain here in La Feria, Texas at 7:30 am this Saturday morning as I start this.  Predicted high of 81º today.  We slept with all windows open and a fan bringing in air through the night.
Click on any photo to enlarge.

Traffic, traffic, traffic.
Thursday afternoon we decided to avoid the Meet & Greet a 4:00 pm and went to Stefano's for soup & Pizza.  Friday noon the water was shut off in the park while they worked on a water main so we used that as an excuse to go into Harlingen and eat at the Panda Express.  The traffic was very heavy--not my kind of driving.  Got some stuff on sale at Walgreen's and also stopped at the car wash.
Merv Stouffer led the parade with music from the
back of his van.

Our illustrious Activity Director scheduled the Christmas Light Parade with Golf Carts at 5:00 pm -- an hour and a half before dark on Friday evening, followed by hot chocolate and cookies at the Rec Hall.
