Busy weekend

Boy Oh Boy, it has been busy since I wrote last.  71º here in Kenwood now at 9:15 am on Monday.  Had windows open in the house overnight and will leave open today.
Where did I leave off -- oh, the concert was coming up.

Phyllis & I picked up Lee Nelson and went to the Center Church in Pharr, Texas, just north of the 281 and I-2 interchange.  Helped get the risers in and set up on the stage and then waited until the concert band practiced and then went on the stage with the Lady Barbershoppers and the Sr. Ambassadors men's chorus.

After that practice I went with Rich Weed over to Bibleville, which is near, to meet with the man he has been using for printing for the Men of A-Chord.  Rich will not return to the Valley next year and I will work up the printing as well as do the Internet part of the MOAC (Men of A-Chord) for the next year or so.  On returning, we waited some time and finally had our practice session on stage, then we took Lee Nelson with us and went to Rudy's Barbeque for supper.  Earl had never been there and was quite awed with the place.  His wife walks with a walker and he said they hardly went out to eat as it was easier to cook and eat at their Mobile Home in Pine to Palm RV Resort in Weslaco.
   Returned to the church and waited in a back room while the Senior Ambassadors performed, then the Magic Valley Chorus (The lady barbershop group) and then we did our 5 songs.  Returned to the room, and waited until the Concert Band performed and then, along with the Senior Ambassadors and the Magic Valley Chorus, returned to the stage behind the band and did a big finale for the concert.  By the time we helped load the trailer and got back home it was nearly 10:00 pm.
When we were at Rude's BBQ I saw Pat Smith, who plays the piano and electric organ at the Kenwood RV Park, and twisted her arm into running the camera for me to video our part of the program.  Set up the tripod for her.  She wasn't used to the camera and missed most of our first song (Nothing Like a Dame, where we dress as Navy guys) as she didn't realize she hadn't quite engaged the video part.  Got most of the rest of it, even though there were couple places where the audience stood so you get the sound, but not view of the stage.  I have uploaded it to my YouTube site CLICK HERE

Was up before 6 am on Saturday and set out our stuff for the garage sale.  Got rid of some things.
 

 

These pictures were taken at various times during the morning.

Picked up all the tables and left around 12 noon for Port Isabel, which is at the west end of the causeway going to South Padre Island, driving Harold & LaRhoda's car.  Had a very nice seafood lunch.  When the waiter was told it was Harold's 93rd birthday they came out with a very good sized desert of a brownie topped with ice cream and whipped cream with a cherry and all drizzled with chocolate, including happy birthday.

 

Coming back from Port Isabel, we drove through Brownville and on to the west on 281 returning to La Feria

Big concert tomorrow night

67º  with 16 mph winds and bright sunshine at 11:30 am on Thursday.

Finally sold the Shopsmith that I bought in 1983.  Had brought it down here to Texas several years ago and put it on Yard Sale a year ago.  Advertised it for the Yard Sale this Saturday and a guy called up and bought it yesterday. Had reduced price by $300 during last year's yard sale, and reduced another $200 now.

I know, hard to believe.  Have several little green tomatoes on the plants. Planted as seeds last October and finally starting to get a little something.  Did move them in to the Texas Room to keep them away from the birds.

 The reddish color in these photos is reflection from the LED Grow Lamps I have above them.

Took the fabric from storage shed over to the Rec Hall this morning and returned it at Noon.  Phyllis is getting out clothes, etc. to put on garage sale Saturday morning.

Usually put out stuff at noon on Friday for the people in the park, but we have to leave before 2 pm tomorrow for Pharr to participate in the practice with the other three groups for our program at 7 pm at night.  Will have the Men of A-Chord, Sweet Adalines, Senior Ambassadors, and the Rio Grande Valley Concert Band.  So will put out our items early Saturday morning and take anything unsold in at noon as we are to drive neighbors Harold and LaRhoda Neher to South Padre Island for Harold's birthday dinner.

75º with winds 15 to 20 mph at 6:30 pm Sunday.  Winds had been as high as 36 mph today.

 Saturday we went with Witts and Connalleys to South Padre Island and went on a 3 hour cruise.

Friday night I didn't have my camera gal with me so didn't get any shots of us performing at an RV park in Mission, but took a few shots before and during the break.

 Back to our trip to South Padre Island.

 Saw several shrimp boats dragging their nets on the bottom for shrimp.

 "Hollywood" was the guide on the top deck and fetched wine, beer and pop for us.

wThursday we drove to park where Leonard and Nonie Lund and Steve & Ann Deboome who used to be in our park now live, with Connalleys and played pegs & jokers and had supper with them.

We were on the top deck of this boat and had some sun, but it was cool and windy enough that was certainly not hot.  This was on Breakaway Cruises on what they called their Dinner Cruise- Click HERE for website
