Trip to Elkhorn, NE

67 degrees with overcast sky in Clarinda, IA at 1:00 PM Monday, Memorial Day 2021.

Saturday evening we ate at J Bruner's here in Clarinda with Phyllis' sister Beth & Steve Gregory.  Their daughter, Kara and husband Jason Cooper and son Tyler came from Denver for a graduation party Sunday in Elkhorn, NE, of Beth's son Chris & Becky Gregory's youngest daughter Sarah from High School.

Yesterday we drove to Elkhorn, NE - just west of Omaha - to a graduation party for Sarah. We were near where sister Louise lived on an acreage for a few years back in the late 1980's.

I took 20-some pictures at the gathering, and realize now that this picture is the only one I got of Sarah, when she was hugging Phyllis when we were leaving. Lots of pictures of all the others! Guess she had spent much of her time in the reception line near the entrance and as we milled about, ate an excellent BBQ lunch provided, and visited with many people, she wasn't in the pictures.

This is the photo that the above cropped photo above was taken from. Many, many classmates were there and many family members and friends.

Just took photos of her invite card:

In center of this photo is Sarah's mother Becky, to left is Becky's Mother from Sioux Falls, SD, and Phyllis

Sarah was quite
active in running
and swimming. Had
many photos from school
and many of her ribbons
and back-numbers
on display.

I started making this quilt case from Walnut tree off our farm (1987) last summer. Finally got around to working on it again.

This morning I put second coat of Tung Oil on it and rubbed it down and it is now in the south bedroom. The bought Oak quilt case that hs been in this position is now in our bedroom and she has room for more quilts.

Friday we went to a friends place and got flowers and put them on some gravestones in the Clarinda Cemetery.

Phyllis' parents, grandparents and great grandparents are buried in Clarinda.  Put flowers on them and then went to my sister Louise's grave and renewed the flowers there.

The one peony from the back yard
and some extra cemetery flowers.

HOW DO COURT RECORDERS KEEP STRAIGHT FACES????
These are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts and are things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while the exchanges were taking place.

ATTORNEY: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: Did you check for blood pressure?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: Did you check for breathing?

ATTORNEY: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: How can you be so sure, Doctor?
WITNESS: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
ATTORNEY: I see, but could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless?
WITNESS: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law.

Will post next month - Lynn
