Ready for a week off

On GroundhogDay 2019Punxsutawney Phil could not find his shadow. And as the legend goes, this means we're in for an early spring.  As if that means anything!  Is 70º with heavy overcast and "almost misting" here in La Feria, TX at 3:30 pm Saturday as I start this.

These two photos are at Meet & Greet that Phyllis put on at 4:00 pm Thursday.  She had three speakers, one from Sky-Med, one from the outfit that does scans for blood vessels, etc., and the "Pick-Pocket Gene" that will perform week from Sunday at the rec hall.  Did not have very many of the residents attend.

Thursday by 6 pm trailer with the risers for our Men of A-Chord barbershop chorus was there and we did a performance at 7 pm.  Was a little short on numbers, but audience was appreciative of the songs.  I filled in at the break in one of the quartets that performed.  Phyllis ran the video on a tripod and I have loaded it up to my You Tube page: CLICK HERE to view
The battery ran down just shortly before my quartet finished so you miss the end of the story.
Here are some pictures I have taken off the video, so they are a little blurry.
As we started our program

We sang Ole McDonald's Farm with variation of some humor.

As we started the second half.

We put up our collars and donned sun glasses to sing the 1950's Doo-Wop song In the Still of the Night.

Helped serve breakfast this morning at the rec hall; had ham and egg casserole or sausage and egg casserole, or a "taco" egg casserole with biscuits and sausage gravy. Had 50 some people that we served.

Last evening Phyllis put on the first annual Chili Contest where 12 different residents prepared chili.  We set their crockpots in the kitchen, put letters on each and then dipped small cups of each for the residents to taste and judge.  Had something over 70 people and these three ladies were judged to have the first, second, and third place i the vote.
Everyone had brought something, salads, vegetables, deserts, etc. and there were many delicious soups.  One lady had brought a vegetable/beef soup, which I delightfully had a cup and a half, but it was not judged.

Yesterday I was back in the sign business for a little bit.  Though our manager had let Phyllis buy some boards to put on the A-Frames to announce shows, yard sales, etc.., she wouldn't buy some individual numbers on choroplast to indicate dates or prices, but had to get from her sister-in-law the numbers.  She showed up with the requested numbers, but in two different sizes and with one of the sizes without transfer tape on them.  By cutting the scrap coroplast that Phyllis found and I was able to move the one set of numbers that had the transfer tape and then moving them to the ones without.  With a little difficulty was able to get the double sided cards made.

Phyllis & Patty (and I) have spent the day washing clothes, packing suitcases, and trying to get organized to leave about 6:30 am in the morning for Galveston.  Plan to eat breakfast in Kingsville and then be at the ship by around 1 pm.  We can't board until 1:30 pm and are to leave port for the seven-day cruise at 4 pm.
Later, Lynn
