Fall-like temperatures

70º here in Clarinda, IA at 9:53 am Monday as I start this.  Was 52º on the back deck at 6:55 am when I went to the hot tub -- the water in the tub was only twice the temperature (almost - 100º),  Feels like fall approaching.
We drove down to Harold & LaRhoda Neher's place Saturday for some visiting and some Pegs & Jokers.  Lots of poor looking corn fields in that area.  They said someone in the area had combined come corn and gotten 40 bushels per acre - about 200 bushels less than usual.  The drought at the time the corn was growing really hurt them.

They did have a good year for the two apple trees they have near their house and since they already had quite a few apples picked, asked us if we wanted any.  So, after eating lunch, Phyllis & I picked a 5-gallon bucket each of the red and green apples.  Phyllis gave some of each to Bonnie Brown yesterday.  We are eating some and she is going to make pies and also freeze some apple sauce.

Quite a lot of apples still on the tree

Quite a lot of apples still on the tree

Watched this squirrel bury several dozen acorns in
our front yard Friday - if they all grow we will have a forest.

I believe he thought I was watching him!  This was with
almost full telephoto on my camera.
Couple photos taken from the choir area when the young kids were up front for Children's Time yesterday.

Yesterday was Pot Luck lunch after the 2nd service ended at 12 Noon.

I didn't take these butterfly photos, but "borrowed" them from another blog.  They are actually in Canada.

Phyllis took a lot of pictures of a whole bunch of quilts she has hand-quilted so can have prints made for her photo book of them.  These are only a few of the pictures.

Must mention that we were hoping to make a trip to West Branch, Michigan this next week to get to see Bill and Darlene Winslow for a bit.  Bill has cancer (couple on the brain - and unknown if other parts of the body) and is in very deteriorating condition.  Phyllis had spoken with her several times on the phone and she wasn't sure Bill was up to company.  She called yesterday and said he isn't happy with any company other than his immediate family and so we will forego the trip.  She is with him 24/7 and having to help him move from and to the bed and/or chair and it is becoming hard for her, but they insist on staying at home.  Hope the best for both of them.

You should look at the blog of the guy I plagerize the "Groaners Corner" from Click HERE
to see how many photos can be put on a blog --- almost every day.  He is in Canada and spends some winters in Arizona.  I think he is interesting.

GROANER’S CORNER:((  Two priests were going to Hawaii on vacation and decided that they would make this a real vacation by not wearing anything that would identify them as clergy. As soon as the plane landed, they headed for a store and bought some really outrageous shorts, shirts, sandals, sunglasses, and etc. The next morning they went to the beach, dressed in their “tourist” garb and were sitting on beach chairs, enjoying a drink, the sunshine and the scenery when a “drop dead gorgeous” blonde in a tiny bikini came walking straight towards them. They couldn't help but stare and when she passed them, she smiled and said, “Good morning, Father” – “Good morning, Father,” nodding and addressing each of them individually, then passed on by. They were both stunned. How in the world did she recognize them as priests? The next day they went back to the store, bought even more outrageous outfits-these were so loud, you could hear them before you even saw them-and again settled on the beach in their chairs to enjoy the sunshine, etc. After a while, the same gorgeous blonde, wearing a string bikini this time, came walking toward them again. (They were glad they had sunglasses, because their eyes were about to pop out of their heads.) Again, she approached them and greeted them individually: “Good morning, Father,” “Good morning Father,” and started to walk away. One of the priests couldn't stand it and said. “Just a minute, young lady. Yes, we are priests, and proud of it, but I have to know, how in the world did YOU know?” “Oh, Father, don't you recognize me? I'm Sister Angela!”

Zen Logic:  Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead. Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow. Do not walk beside me either.  Just pretty much leave me alone……...or else!!

Till next time.
