Last day of August

70 degrees here in Clarinda, IA at 8:00 pm as I start this.  Haven't run the air conditioner since we got back last Sunday, but do have my exhaust window fan sucking out the 80 degree inside air.

Haven't done much last few days.  Working on some abdomen pain and had several tests at the hospital today and set up for some more tomorrow morning at 8 am.  Hope to have some answers tomorrow.

Of course, have cancelled plans about going to Nebraska State fair tomorrow and were going to stop at brother Roger's for a visit.  Will have to try to do that before we head south on September 28th.  Still hoping to leave week from tomorrow for Spencer, IA to Clay County Fair.  All depends on things tomorrow.

Phyllis worked at the Food Bank at the old church building yesterday.

GROANER’S CORNER:(( Shaky went to a psychiatrist. "Doc," he said, "I've got trouble. Every time I get into bed, I think there's somebody under it. I get under the bed, I think there's somebody on top of it. Top, under, top, under ... you gotta help me, I'm going crazy!" "Just put yourself in my hands for two years," said the shrink. "Come to me three times a week, and I'll cure your fears." "How much do you charge?" "A hundred dollars per visit."   "I'll sleep on it," said Shaky.   Six months later the doctor met Shaky on the street.   "Why didn't you ever come to see me again?" asked the psychiatrist.   "For a hundred buck's a visit?  A bartender cured me for ten dollars."   "Is that so! How?"   "He told me to cut the legs off the bed!"

Well, it is not too hard to guess that our Grand Daughter Jessica was the focus of the weekend.

Even got Phyllis down on the floor.

Will be catching up on things here at home.
Got 3 weeks worth of mail at the Post Office this morning.   Planning on going west to Grand Island, NE on Friday to attend the Nebraska State Fair.

GROANER’S CORNER:((

Doctor Doctor I think I'm a moth.
So why did you come around then?
Well, I saw this light at the window...!

Doctor, Doctor I keep getting pains in the eye when I drink coffee.  Have you tried taking the spoon out of the cup?

Doctor, Doctor will this ointment clear up my spots?  I never make rash promises!

Doctor, Doctor, I feel like a pack of cards.   I'll deal with you later.

Doctor, Doctor I keep thinking there is two of me.  One at a time please

Doctor, Doctor I feel like a spoon!   Well sit still and don't stir!

A guy walks into a bar and orders a drink.  After a few he decides to visit the john.  He does not want anyone to steal his drink so he puts a sign on it saying,  " I SPIT IN THIS BEER, DO NOT DRINK'.  After a few minutes he returns.  There is another sign next to his beer saying, SO DID I.

Back in Marengo, IA

76º here in Marengo, IA at 4:54 pm as I start this.  Was 51º this morning near Sterling, IL when we woke.  Left there about 9 am and stopped for gass in Sterling
Beat the $2.549 in Kalamzoo a couple days ago
Lynn by coin-operated item asking for $3,500

Drove from Sterling, IL west to Clinton, IA and then followed the Mississippi River south to Le Claire, IA which is just up the river from Davenport, IA

Stopped at Antique Archaeology which is owned by Mike Wolfe of the TV show American Pickers.

Book I did not buy, but gives names
of the characters in the TV show

Clerk at Antique Archaeology talking with Phyllis

A clerk visited with Phyllis extensively, answering questions.  Mike Wolfe owns Antique Archaeology, both the store in Le Claire and the one in Nashville.  Frank Fritz, who appears on the American Pickers show with Mike, owns his own store someplace in Illinois.  It was Mike who tried to get a TV show started and asked it to be named Antique Archaeology, but the producers said viewers would be turned off by the word Antique.  So, they came up with the name American Pickers.  When they are on the TV show, Frank is buying for his stores and Frank is buying for his store.  Danielle lives in Chicago where she does most of her research and finding stuff via internet and by phone.  She comes to either the Iowa store or the Tennessee store only when the TV production crew is going to be at the store for certain filming.
Lots of people in the store

An old, old motor bike - NFS  (Not For Sale)

This is almost entirely rust - "Don't Touch" signs all over it- NFS

Another old bike - NFS

We had coupon from our Iowa Restaurants from "Our Iowa Magazine" with us and stopped at Big Dave & Hollys about a mile north of Antique  Archaeology, right along the Mississippi River north of Le Claire.  Great food - was really busy and Holly kept up with everything.  We each ordered a Breaded Pork Tenderloin and when they came they were so huge we just split one and got a box for the other.  A customer recommended the Deep Fried Cauliflower so we added that, too.  Delicious.
Phyllis visited with this lady, Vera, quite a bit.  Holly
told me that Vera is 103 years old and is a regular customer.

Stopped at Costco in Coralville, IA to get gas for $2.109 this afternoon.  Since we got here at our son's place about 3 pm and have been visiting with granddaughter Ashley and Great Granddaughter Jessica.
Jessica learning to run a shopping cart!!!!!

GROANER’S CORNER:((  A lawyer died and arrived at the pearly gates. To his dismay, there were thousands of people ahead of him in line to see St. Peter. To his surprise, St. Peter left his desk at the gate and came down the long line to where the lawyer was, and greeted him warmly. Then St. Peter and one of his assistants took the lawyer by the hands and guided him up to the front of the line, and into a comfortable chair by his desk. The lawyer said, "I don't mind all this attention, but what makes me so special?"  St. Peter replied, "Well, I've added up all the hours for which you billed your clients, and by my calculation you must be about 193 years old!"

- On a rural road a state trooper pulled this farmer over and said: "Sir, do you realize your wife fell out of the car several miles back?" To which the farmer replied: "Thank God, I thought I had gone deaf!"

Near Sterling, Illinois

72º here near Sterling, Illinois at 5:55 pm on Thursday evening.  Was 50º when we got up at our trailer near Climax, Michigan.
Dumped the tanks and re-filled freshwater tank at Cold Brook County Park.
Apartment building cousin Betty LeBlanc moved into on July 10, 2017

Betty LeBlanc and her daughter & granddaughter from Piscataway, NJ

Granddaughter Michelle in living room where we had put up all the
items on the wall for Betty from her house in Marshall, MI

Cheryl LeBlanc and Phyllis - lunch on Wednesday.
This morning after we left Cold Brook County Park we drove to St. Joseph, Michigan to the Silver Beach Carousel.  They didn't open until 10 and we were were early so we drove a few blocks to the beach on Lake Michigan and walked a bit.

Then we went back to the carousel.  This very unique carousel was built some 8 years ago and is run by volunteers.  They were quiet because it was cold - in the 50's and almost rain.  I took many photos and will try to link to them later.

We drove on Interstate a while -- which is very un-nerving to this guy.

We stopped at Merrillville, Indiana at a Costco where we got gas for $2.24 which was $.30 less per gallon than the fill before.  Gas - and diesel prices all over the place.  According to Gas Buddy we can get gas in Sterling, IL in the morning for $2.13, but have seen prices from $2.19 to $2.49 today.

Of course, since we were getting gas at Costco and it was near lunch time we had to get their all-beef hot dog and pop for $1.50.  The $3.22, including tax, was less than a fourth of what I had tipped the day before when we five ate at Texas Road House!

This is the kind of road I like - without all that fast traffic.

Got here at Crow Valley Campground a little after 4:30 pm and have been able to relax a bit.  Had a good supper and will head out in the morning for Marengo, IA for the weekend.

GROANER’S CORNER:((
10 Reasons Why God Created Eve……..
10. God worried that Adam would always be lost in the garden because he knew men would never ask directions.
9. God knew that Adam would one day need someone to hand him the TV remote because men don't want to see what's on television, they want to see WHAT ELSE is on television.
8. God knew that Adam would never buy a new fig leaf when the seat wore out and therefore would need Eve to get one for him.
7. God knew that Adam would never make a doctors appointment for himself.
6. God knew that Adam would never remember which night was garbage night.
5. God knew that if the world was to be populated there would have to be someone to bear children, because men would never be able to handle it.
4. As 'Keeper of the Garden' Adam would never remember where he put his tools.
3. The scripture account of creation indicates that Adam needed someone to blame his troubles on when God caught him hiding in the garden.
2. As the Bible says, 'It is not good for man to be alone.' He only ends up getting himself in trouble.
AND the #1 REASON WHY GOD CREATED EVE is ...
When God had finished the creation of Adam, He stepped back, scratched his head and said, 'I KNOW I can do better than THIS!!'
