Saturday at the Glenn Miller Festival

89º here in Clarinda, IA at 11:55 am Sunday as I start this -- Humidity of 53% and 22 mph winds out of the south, which blew all day yesterday, also.  Predicted high of 94º.  Remember you can click on any photo to enlarge it.  (Also, you can click on any blog under the Archive at right to go to other posts)
These flags in front of the High School Auditorium stood stiff
like this almost all day yesterday with south wind.
We set in for a while at the Business Meeting of the Board of the Glenn Miller Birthplace Society at 9:15 am and then back to the auditorium by 9:40 am to start seating the people for the Blue Beginners Jazz Band from Japan.  Was far from a "full house" but the entertainment these high school juniors and seniors was amazing.

Ate lunch in the commons area and then back to the auditorium by 1 pm to seat the crowd for the Lady Luck Trio from Utah.  They put on a completely different show from Friday -  this a 1940's radio show with lots of songs and skits of the time.

At 2:30 it was over to the gymnasium to take tickets and seat the people for a presentation on the book "Glenn Miller Declassified"

At 4:00 pm back to the auditorium to help seat a fairly good sized crowd for the last performance of the festival of the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Having felt the effects of being on our feet for the full day and not being assigned to help usher for the 8:00 pm dance with  the John Morgan Big Band Orchestra, we left before the finish of the Glenn Miller Orchestra.  (Think during the festival we had heard played nearly all of the Glenn Miller tunes a number of times).  The photo at right and below was taken from Facebook of the orchestra and that dance.

Is now 12:15 pm and Phyllis just left to help with the final performance of the Blue Beginners Jazz Band.  Final event of the festival is the Shades of Blue Air Force Jazz Band at 3:00 PM.  It had been scheduled to perform on the town square, but with the heat and extreme winds it has been moved into the gymnasium at the school.

Must include a few photos from Facebook our granddaughter Ashley posted of our great granddaughter Jessica in the bath tub.  (I will call her Spike now)

Later, Lynn
