Acadia National Park and Roosevelt Campobello International Park

62º and overcast near Bar Harbor ME  -  Had little over an inch of rain yesterday afternoon and overnight.   Click on pictures to make larger--click on blue links to see those websites.
Sometimes when you "lets see where that road goes to" you end up in another country.

Tuesday we drove north along the coast of Maine, stopping at several small towns and walking out to the docks, watching fishing boats, some loading of boxes we assume were fish or crabs from the dock onto trucks.  We ate a lunch of fish chowder and a haddock burger one place.  This now makes lobster, haddock, fish chowder, clam chowder, crab roll for our seafood.
Anyway, we got to Lubec, Maine (the easternmost city in the US) and saw there was a bridge to an island.  Headed that way and had to stop at Canadian Customs.  Turns out we were on
Campobello Island, part of New Brunswick, Since we had our Passports with us we went on across and visited Roosevelt Campobella International Park

Turned out to be a very interesting couple hours.  We toured a museum about this place that FDR's father bought before FDR was born; FDR spent much time here, and in fact when he was 32 years old he was at this place when polio struck him.

This was original house FDR's father built.
FDR later built this one, much larger, near the one of his father.

It was a huge "cottage" for the day, in the early 1900's.  It has been refurnished to look like it was in 1920-1921.

It was nearly 70 miles from our trailer to this north spot.  We returned in the rain about 6:30 pm to our trailer.
Monday we took the trolley guided tour of Acadia National Park.  This 2.5 hour tour was very interesting and narrated throughout about the history (Rockefeller donated most of the land, and built many of the carriage roads in the park).   We stopped for 15 minute breaks/look abouts-one of them this place at the sea edge where waves slap into a cave making a thunderous sound.

The sea has a 12 foot difference in this area between high tide and low tide.  That made it interesting when seeing many small boats sitting in the "mud" at low tide.

We spent time (in the daylight this time) on top of Cadillac Mountain.
This view looks down over Bar Harbor.

Yesterday stopped to buy some locally grown Blue Berries.  Had some in pancakes this morning............really good.

To take off from this park in the morning, tour Maine capital in Augusta and end up in park in Orchard Beach, ME tomorrow night.

Later, Lynn
