Cool has arrived in SW Iowa

67º here in Clarinda, IA at 10:15 am on Thursday--high to be only 81º

This is the new sign put up this summer about the Glenn Miller Birthplace Society Museum.  It is several miles south of Clarinda on Highway 71.

This says something about
todays citizens intelligence.

Came out of the house Tuesday, near noon, to find that my tall grass around the electric box in our front yard had all been cut down.  Was furious and could not get anyone on the phone at the hospital--they own the lot beside us-- finally saw their guy cutting brush in back yard at their house next door yesterday and confronted him.  He said his boss told him to cut it back as they thought it was on their property.  Straightened him out about the fact that the lot line runs north from the taller phone pedestal and the electric box, and the tall grass around it to hide it in the summer is on my property.  He apologized and said he would tell his boss.  Of course, no-one from hospital higher-ups has bothered to contact me.

I looked back in my photos and couldn't find one of my electric box, but the tall grass was similar to the one at my neighbor's house, shown at right.

Took these photos from the recumbent trike at the hospital.  They have a lot of stuff, looks like mostly insulation, near the work on the new surgery room.

They have the red iron up and the roof covered for the new surgery room.

Well, have been home 5 days now.  Getting used to the floor being level and not hearing the roar of the A/C right over our heads, like in the trailer.

Our next planned excursion with it is first week of October to be in Branson, MO

Till next time, Lynn

RED SKELTON'S RECIPE FOR THE PERFECT MARRIAGE

RED SKELTON'S RECIPE FOR THE PERFECT MARRIAGE

1. Two times a week we go to a nice restaurant, have a little beverage, good food and companionship.  She goes on Tuesdays, I go on Fridays.

2. We also sleep in separate beds.  Hers is in California and mine is in Texas.

3. I take my wife everywhere, but she keeps finding her way back.

4. I asked my wife where she wanted to go for our anniversary.  "Somewhere I haven't been in a long time!" she said. So I suggested the kitchen.

5. We always hold hands. If I let go, she shops.

6. She has an electric blender, electric toaster and electric bread maker.  She said "There are too many gadgets, and no place to sit down!" So I bought her an electric chair.

7. My wife told me the car wasn't running well because there was water in the carburetor.  I asked where the car was. She told me, "In the lake."

8. She got a mud pack and looked great for two days.  Then the mud fell off.

9. She ran after the garbage truck, yelling, "Am I too late for the garbage?" The driver said, "No, jump in!".

10. Remember: Marriage is the number one cause of divorce.

11. I married Miss Right. I just didn't know her first name was 'Always'.

12. I haven't spoken to my wife in 18 months.  I don't like to interrupt her.

13. The last fight was my fault though.  My wife asked, "What's on the TV?"  I said, "Dust!".

Can't you just hear him say all of these?

I love it. These were the good old days when humor didn't have to start with a four letter word or political. It was just clean and simple fun. And he always ended his programs with the words,  "And May God Bless" with a big smile on his face

38 days in our "Little House on wheels" -- back home now

74º here in Clarinda, IA at 11:18 am on Monday.  117 years ago today my Dad was born in Pana, Illinois.

After being gone 38 days and driving 3,641 miles and seeing a lot of people and things, time to try to organize things.  The last 5 days of our trip we were in Macon, MO at their Bluegrass Festival and I taped all the shows we went to (3 stages running continuously from 10 am until 9 pm and then dances that followed that---don't know how long they lasted as we were pooped and went to bed -- have many files to edit, and convert to .mp3 files on a flash drive so we can listen to while in the pickup.

We spent several hours in the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy in Center for Arts in Vincennes, IN on 8-30-31.  Was raining pretty hard and we had a bit of trouble finding the right building.  It is  located on the campus of Vincennes University in Red's hometown, Vincennes, Indiana.  Click HERE for the web site.  He was a wonderful person and always emitted happiness, even though he had some rough spots in his lifetime.

From there we headed to Kell, IL where we had intended to spend afternoon, evening and stay overnight in their driveway at Jim & Lavine Boozer's place.  They are old friends from our Kenwood RV Park in Texas, though they sold their place several years ago and have stayed close to home.  With various health issues and age they are getting along reasonably well.  However, they called the day before we were to arrive with the news that Lavine had spent time with her daughter a few days prior and then the daughter had been diagnosed with Covid-19.  Even though she and her parents have both been vaccinated for this, they just gave us a heads-up that we may not want to come.  We elected to visit a short time on their front porch out in the air, and we wore masks -- spent about 2.5 hours for a good visit and brought them up-to-date on a lot of people in Kenwood RV Park.

They said to tell all "Hi" at Kenwood.

At least two of their kids live close by and do the yard mowing, help them as needed and do the driving to St. Louis for specialty doctors.

After leaving Jim & Lavine we drove in some pretty hard rain across some county roads (well, it was a shorter route) to Timber Trails Campground near Mulberry Grove, Illinois where we spent the night before driving on to Macon, Missouri.

At Macon we were at the county fairgrounds and sat there (the trailer) for 5 days, which was the longest time during our trip.

Got there Tuesday morning and first event was a pot-luck supper Wednesday evening.  We drove to an Amish store about 5 miles south of Macon and got groceries.  Phyllis got some mush which we had for several breakfasts, which was really good.

Wednesday afternoon we listened while several groups jammed and practiced with some "new" people to include in their part of the program.

After the Pot-Luck supper many of the people again played, for their fun and our enjoyment.

Listened to a lot of good entertainment from Thursday through Saturday evening.

Drove home on Sunday morning, stopping at Pizza Ranch in Marysville, MO for lunch on the way home.

Greetings from Ohio

86º with feel like of 96º and hot, bright sunshine here in North Bend, Ohio.  Our RV Park is on State Line Road, and a couple hundred feet to the west is Indiana and we drove into the corner of Indiana to get here this morning.

We spent the last couple days doing the CREATION MUSEUM  and ARK ENCOUNTER   which are both in Kentucky.  We spent better part of Thursday driving the 60 miles or so to the Creation Museum and returned to our trailer parked at Dry Ridge, KY.  On Friday we drove the 8 miles to the Ark Encounter.  Both were interesting and lots of time spent reading all the posters and presentations and watching videos.  We had found out that THE ISAACS  were going to be performing on Friday at the Ark at 10 am and 5 pm along with other entertainers for the 40 Days And Nights Of Gospel Music that has various gospel entertainers for ---40 days, we had seen that Sarah Davison and her Highroad band  was performing Thursday, but our timing didn't work out for us to see her.

Just before going
into the
Creation Museum

Just inside the Creation Museum

I took just under 1,000
photos between the
two places and it
will take a long time
to edit them.

I will try to get my photos organized and fully edited, probably after we return home, and upload them to my Google Photo Albums and will be giving a chance for you to look at the over 2,000 photos I have taken so far-- and we have another 10 days to go, including Bluegrass Festival in Macon, MO.

This is our first view of the Ark -- we were transported some 3/4 mile or so from the parking area where we could not see the Ark.

We went directly to the Answer Center and saw the 10:00 am show featuring the Isaacs, with other entertainers.  It lasted about 1 1/2 hours.

We went to the actual Ark later in the afternoon and spent more than two hours walking the three decks of this huge boat.

I am running short of time, and we are going to run into Cincinnati to meet our daughter at Findlay Market for lunch and a look around as our finale to the nearly week she has spent with us.

Leaving Lexington, KY for Dry Ridge, KY

93º here in Lexington, KY with a feel like of 98º at 6:30 pm on Tuesday evening.

Was a real nice day,  Our daughter Michelle, with her two dogs - Mouse & Dawson - got here about 11 am yesterday (Monday).  I had gone to a Havoline  place for change of oil in the pickup.  After eating lunch at the trailer we drove the area looking at all the fences and horse farms.

Arena at left is on the grounds here at Horse Park where we are camping.

Picked up lunch at Fazolis and brought it back to the trailer.

A few games of Pegs & Jokers in afternoon
and evening..

Well, it happened again.  Started this and then was interrupted by supper, Pegs & Jokers and then tiredness.  Michelle & her two dogs stayed with us in the trailer overnight.  Not a lot of room in the trailer for all of us, but we made it through.  It is now 6 am on Wednesday morning.

Tuesday morning we drove some 5 miles to a hotel were we were picked up for a Horse farm and track tour with Thoroughbred Heritage Horse Farm Tours.   Click HERE for their site

Spent time at Keeneland Race Track.  They have races in one month in the spring and one month in the fall.  In September they have several days of one of the largest thorough bred horse sales in the nation where millions of dollars exchange hands.

Located in the Horse Capital of the World, Keeneland is an internationally renowned racecourse and the Thoroughbred industry’s leading auction house. Founded in 1936, Keeneland’s mission is to continually invest in the industry and to preserve the tradition of Thoroughbred racing.  Click HERE for Keenland

Mike, the tour guide, took our photo near the finish line at the track.

Phyllis mentioned that her dad, who had riding horses most of his life, would have enjoyed this trip.  He passed away 35 years ago this next Sunday.

Magdalena Farms -video of horse farm we visited.

We were shown several horse farms from the road, but stopped at Magdalena Farms and spent time in their horse barn.

Mike, our guide, is quite fond of this horse, shown below.

These colts were about 5 months old and had been weened only a few weeks at Magdalena Farm.

The horses in the stalls here had just been feed, so they weren't paying a lot of attention to us.

We spent time at the trailer yesterday afternoon after eating at a very good Japanese Buffet for lunch following our tour.

After more Pegs & Jokers following supper here in the trailer, Michelle went back to her friend in Cincinnati and will return to us after we move from here in Lexington to a spot in Dry Ridge, KY where we will travel to The Ark Encounter and The Creation Museum -- on separate days near Williamsburg, KY and  Petersburg, KY in the next few days..
