38 days in our "Little House on wheels" -- back home now

74º here in Clarinda, IA at 11:18 am on Monday.  117 years ago today my Dad was born in Pana, Illinois.

After being gone 38 days and driving 3,641 miles and seeing a lot of people and things, time to try to organize things.  The last 5 days of our trip we were in Macon, MO at their Bluegrass Festival and I taped all the shows we went to (3 stages running continuously from 10 am until 9 pm and then dances that followed that---don't know how long they lasted as we were pooped and went to bed -- have many files to edit, and convert to .mp3 files on a flash drive so we can listen to while in the pickup.

We spent several hours in the Red Skelton Museum of American Comedy in Center for Arts in Vincennes, IN on 8-30-31.  Was raining pretty hard and we had a bit of trouble finding the right building.  It is  located on the campus of Vincennes University in Red's hometown, Vincennes, Indiana.  Click HERE for the web site.  He was a wonderful person and always emitted happiness, even though he had some rough spots in his lifetime.

From there we headed to Kell, IL where we had intended to spend afternoon, evening and stay overnight in their driveway at Jim & Lavine Boozer's place.  They are old friends from our Kenwood RV Park in Texas, though they sold their place several years ago and have stayed close to home.  With various health issues and age they are getting along reasonably well.  However, they called the day before we were to arrive with the news that Lavine had spent time with her daughter a few days prior and then the daughter had been diagnosed with Covid-19.  Even though she and her parents have both been vaccinated for this, they just gave us a heads-up that we may not want to come.  We elected to visit a short time on their front porch out in the air, and we wore masks -- spent about 2.5 hours for a good visit and brought them up-to-date on a lot of people in Kenwood RV Park.

They said to tell all "Hi" at Kenwood.

At least two of their kids live close by and do the yard mowing, help them as needed and do the driving to St. Louis for specialty doctors.

After leaving Jim & Lavine we drove in some pretty hard rain across some county roads (well, it was a shorter route) to Timber Trails Campground near Mulberry Grove, Illinois where we spent the night before driving on to Macon, Missouri.

At Macon we were at the county fairgrounds and sat there (the trailer) for 5 days, which was the longest time during our trip.

Got there Tuesday morning and first event was a pot-luck supper Wednesday evening.  We drove to an Amish store about 5 miles south of Macon and got groceries.  Phyllis got some mush which we had for several breakfasts, which was really good.

Wednesday afternoon we listened while several groups jammed and practiced with some "new" people to include in their part of the program.

After the Pot-Luck supper many of the people again played, for their fun and our enjoyment.

Listened to a lot of good entertainment from Thursday through Saturday evening.

Drove home on Sunday morning, stopping at Pizza Ranch in Marysville, MO for lunch on the way home.

Later, Lynn
