First Men of A-Chord Barbershop Chorus performance done

Yesterday, Sunday the 12th, we did our first barbershop chorus performance.  First picture shows the red vests we wore the first half of the program.  I did not think to give Darlene the camera until at our break, so she got some photos of the second half.
We normally wear our vests with the black side out for second half, but due to excessive perspiration during the first half we were allowed not to wear them later.  Phyllis is singing Tenor (highest part) and I am singing Lead (second highest part).  Had quite a few men missing for this performance.

Larry and Kathy Liebig, from northern Missouri, spend their winters in Winter Ranch there in Alamo, TX, since they were not at our performance, we looked them up afterwards and had a short visit (was during half-time of the Kansas City Chief's football game so they were able to visit a while. Larry, a retired Missouri Highway Patrolman, still does some square dance calling -- which is where we got acquainted with them.

Saturday afternoon we went to Dixieland RV in Harlingen to listen to Freddy & Sheila.  They are a great couple, and Freddie comes as close to Chet Atkins on the guitar as you will ever hear.  I videoed the  program and then changed it to audio so can listen when in the pickkup.
Got some groceries Saturday - see picture of beef jerky

This ws a very brilliant colored sunset - never come sthrough on photos.

Saturday I rode all the streets in the park, in both directions, with video running to show the units that are here now.  You can view this video CLICK HERE

Is 10:15 am Monday now - must quit so we can leave for Gatti's Pizza for bingo and food.

Little less wind today -- John Metzgar's obituary

Once again having trouble with setting up in this program.  Will try to continue.

Photos from the Care and Share quilt making group Thursday.

Thursday afternoon we attended a small gathering of the SkyMed people for Root Beer Floats and a presentation on their program of transportation in case of illness or accident. These two photos are of that afternoon.
John Metzgar, from Mound City, Missouri, was here in Kenwood when we first started 10 years ago.  He lived just a couple units west of us and then later bought a bigger unit on the south side.  He had cancer treatments this summer and finally succumbed to the cancer this week.  Here is his obituary from KMALand radio in Shenandoah, IA:

I have searched my files of photos for a picture of John (And there is none with the obit) and haven't come up with one

John Harrison Metzgar was born Feb. 27, 1941 to Willis Bryan Metzgar and Ann Louise Bremen Metzgar in Sandy Spring, Maryland. He passed away Jan. 7, 2020 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph following a short courageous battle with cancer.
John spent his career as a physical education teacher with the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) in Germany, Okinawa, Japan, and Seoul, Korea. He was an advocate for being involved with a life-long physical activity. He golfed, bowled, and participated in numerous golf events and 5K’s. Notably, he participated in every Red Rock Fun Run in Mound City except the 29th event this past July 4 as his health did not permit—but he got his shirt at a doctor’s visit!
Upon John’s retirement from teaching overseas, he relocated to Mound City, MO to be near his father. About 20 years ago John joined the Winter Texans in search of a warmer climate to golf, walk, and enjoy other outdoor and lifelong physical activities. Locals enjoyed his spring return when he would bring fresh picked grapefruit. During the summers and winters, he shared his beautiful, fragrant roses with neighbors and friends in both Missouri and Texas.
John enjoyed his toys—a red and white airplane; a red motorcycle; and a red golf cart! His other hobbies were growing roses, tending to fruit trees, doing research at the public library, reading the Wall Street Journal, and driving through the Squaw Creek Refuge eyeing Bald Eagles and other wildlife. He also planted some trees at the Mound City Golf Course for beautification.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first cousins, Jerry Metzgar Heck, Joyce Metzgar Sutherland, and Harold Metzgar; and his canine friend, Checkers.
He is survived by first cousins, Tom (Connie) Metzgar of Trenton, MO, Phyllis Metzgar Chaney of Harrisonville, MO, Jesse (Agnes) Metzgar of Battle Creek, MI, Bill (Karma) Metzgar of Mound City, MO, and Lila and Ann Metzgar of Kansas City, MO; friend, Ellen Belbas whom he met in Texas; along with numerous other cousins and friends, co-workers, and teammates.
Services: Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, 10:30 a.m., at Chamberlain Funeral Home, Mound City. The family will greet friends beginning one hour prior to the service. Interment: Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City MO. Family and friends are welcome to a lunch following the services at The First Christian Church, 402 E. 5th, Mound City, MO. Memorials: Holt County Cancer Fund Inc., 202 N. Harrison St., Oregon MO 64473.
I might mention that Bill & Susy Martin sold their mobile home on the south side and left last weekend for their home in Michigan.

Calm now (at 8:15 am)

59 degrees at 8:15 Saturday morning and very strange!  No wind.  Recorded gust at 56 mph yesterday in Harlingen.  Was blowing very hard when we were singing at a gathering in Pharr yesterday after practice for barbershop chorus.
One of the quartets singing

The gathering was for recruiting softball players for that park - Tropic Winds in Pharr, TX - and also for singers for the Men of A-Chord.  They talked up the softball and then we sang and talked up Men of A-Chord and then all ate.  Very good pot luck type meal.  Then we sang some more.  Was after dark before we got back to Kenwood after dropping off Dennis and Bob at Snow to Sun park.

I should have asked someone in the crowd to use my camera to take a photo of us singing--- but didn't.

Gas in this price range pretty well up and down the valley.

Windy, windy, and more wind

Was low of about 67 degrees overnight - had many windows open in the house overnight.  Wind last couple days in the 30's and 40 mph.  Today forecast winds steady at 40 mph with gusts to 55 mph.  Need a rock in your pocket to stay on the ground.
CLICK HERE  to see video I took last night in Pharr, TX at Center Church when the Singing Cadets from Texas A & M at College Station, Texas performed.  The sponsoring group - Senior Ambassadors of the Rio Grande Valley sang with them during a couple songs.

They had 2 quartets perform - this is from first half of program

This quartet was in second half of program

We at supper at Rudy's BBQ in Pharr before going to the concert.  Always good food there.

As we were entering the church for the concert we came on Lee and Kathy Saunders.  They spent a few years in Kenwood RV before buying a house in Alamo.  They are quite active in the area and even come back to the park to teach Bible Study on Wednesday mornings here.  Had quite a visit with them.

Meinself with Deane and Dick Messer.

Well, is after lunch - local TV reported winds 35-45 mph and Harlingen recorded  gust of 54 mph.  Really windy out.

We are heading to McAllen to practice for the Men of A-Chord.  Will do more this evening.

75º here in La Feria, TX at 4:10 pm Sunday with bright sunshine.  Was in the lower 50's this morning.  Little wind today, which is unusual.  Has been 25 to 35 mph last several days.

Guess I haven't posted since Christmas.  On Thursday afternoon we, with Bob & Bibi Raabd, rove to Pharr, TX to Rudys BBQ  CLICK HERE  where we met Lyle & Doris Winter for lunch.

We then drove to Winter's RV Park in San Juan and had an afternoon of Pegs & Jokers; and, of course finished with some Lemon Pie and Coffee.

Made a replacement approach board for Harold & LaRhoda Neher's ramp next door.  Used my Japanese saw to rip angle on the 2"x6" board to get the angle on the bottom.  Hope it stands up to the wear.

Friday morning we both went to the Men of A-Chord barbershop chorus practice in McAllen, picking up a couple guys at Snow to Sun RV in Weslaco.

Phyllis just headed down to open the gate to let the Kody Norris Show in for our entertainment tonight.
