20 February

82 degrees and very bright sunshine 57% humidity at 4:30pm on Saturday 20, 2016

Well, we picked up Patty at the Harlingen Airport on Thursday - didn't get a picture of her, but here are her suitcases!  It was just before 1 pm and we stopped to eat lunch at a Whataberger and then I dropped Phyllis & Patty off at the Rec Hall so they could work with the quilters.
At 4:00 pm
we were back in the
hall for the Meet & Greet.
Patty has been here many
February's and lots of people
stopped to welcome her back
this time.

We went back down to the hall
to play Bean Bag Baseball, at 6:30 pm, but guess I didn't take any pictures.

Arnold and Kathy Waxman had been in a permanent on our street, then sold it several years ago and bought a 5th wheel that they left permanently.  This week they traded that 5th
wheel, with its steps inside, for a travel trailer.  They are in their late 80's or early 90's and this should work better for them.

Phyllis and Patty
went with quite a few ladies in the park for
their "Red Hat" day in Weslaco.
These are the photos Phyllis took there.

 They had a fashion
show and here are
couple of the models
from the park.

and Darlene Winslow

A carload of the "Red Hat Bachelors
went to a Mexican Restaurant
in Weslaco for lunch.

Tonight is the "50th" celebration where all couples having been married 50 years or more will be recognized and those who are celebrating their 50th this year will be honored.

They have moved the
race-car track to a spot
on the next street directly across
from us.  This way they can leave
it up.  It had been on a parking
spot and taken down and put
up every week.

Mid-February

62 degrees and very foggy as I start this at 7:00 am Tuesday.  Car temp showed 93 when we were driving yesterday near McAllen.

Phyllis was Master of Ceremonies Sunday
evening as she and 2 other ladies
put on the Valentine Supper at the
Rec Hall here at Kenwood RV Park
in La Feria, Texas
Rev. Baker giving
blessing just before
the meal.
 Caterers from McAllen
served a good meal.
With two doing the
serving and three doing
the dishing up in the
kitchen it took a little while to
serve everyone.

Phyllis had the crew come out of recognition
and they were given an envelope
containing the tip.

Our tickets for the evening were $10 each
and that included meal, tax, and tip.
Meal was Cordon Bleu with mashed potatoes,
green beans, and green salad.  It hadn't included desert, so the three girls made pink cake that they had set at each place.

Lavin played the
piano before supper
and during the program
as needed.
 Kath Saunders
did a song/dance
routine

Kathy Connelly read a poll
that had been published on
most searched web sites from
each state for Valentine gifts.

Phyllis read a Valentine Poem
 Darlene Winslow did a routine
where she sang to a CD while
pulling various items from her
bra (including golf club, many vinyl records, photos, neck ties, a full length fishing pole.

The song had a sad ending
and Darlene did an
appropriate crying bit.

A drawing was held
for the raffle on several
blankets and sewn items
by the Car and Share group.
Think they said over $500
was raised - which goes to
buying materials for the hundreds
of quilts they give to charitable groups
every year.

Had a brilliant sunset last night,
though this photo doesn't catch
a lot of it -  wasn't able to get
to a place where could get
good shot of it.

This is the fog out our
back door at 7 am this morning
This shows the
humidity at
7:00 am.

Oh yeah, I have gotten a little
work done in the Texas Room.  Getting
a breaker box put in and may, some day,
even get it hooked up replacing the
extension cord now powering everything
in that room from a plug in on the
outside of the end of the mobile home!

Yesterday we drove to McAllen to LazyBoy store, looking to replace the recliner of Phyllis'.  They are good and sturdy but a little on the high side.  Will do some comparing of other furniture stores and see what we will do.  Patty Steckelberg is coming in to Harlingen Air Port just after noon on Thursday.

More Later.

Valantine Day tomorrow

80 degrees here at our home in Kenwood RV Park in La Feria, Texas at 2:00 pm Saturday afternoon.  Clear sky and very bright sunshine.

Thursday and Friday was the big NASCAR races at Kenwood RV Park.  Merve Stauffer put a lot of time and money in to the layout over the last several weeks.  At left Phyllis is running her car around the track against Ruth Stauffer.
We both ran 5 races Thursday and then returned Friday to run 3 more in the finals.  I won enough the first day to be in the winners runoff, but was eliminated in the finals.  Phyllis was in the losers division on Friday and was also eliminated.  Was hot both days and Don Ferguson was helping straightening out the cars (after 3 bumps into the board and unable to get turned around) both days and about did himself in.

We got a kick out of Joany (from Gretna, NE) running her car--she put a lot of body English in it, twisting herself around trying to turn the car, and even talked to it when it was near her.

Since we had been eliminated and the Veggie Man came around about 4 pm we left and didn't hear who got the three trophies that Merve had in his car.

Both days there
were quite
a few
observers.

There have been quite a few
sugar cane fields burned the last
week or so, even with the daily high
winds.  They burn so hot and quickly, that within
a short time the fire is done.  But, they produce
quite a bit of smoke (burning some 40% of
the matter of the cane--leaving the green
stalk, which they want for the
sugar content) and it rises quite high
in the atmosphere.
 They are limited by
weather factors:
humidity, temperature,
wind at various levels
and have no trouble with
burning adjoining areas.
If the weather is just right
and you are down wind you can
see some "Texas Snow" -- the
small black burned cane
pieces.  There was
quite a wind yesterday when these
photos were taken of fire just south and east

of our park but we did not
witness and "Texas Snow"

 Couple of tomatoes
that are setting
on two of my
seven tomato
plants.

Couple of
motorhomes
that came in early
in February from
Missouri.

This morning, Saturday, Phyllis & I
helped serve the breakfast at
the Rec Hall.  Quiche, along with
biscuits and gravy went
over well with the 50-some
people who ate.  In this
photo we were just about
ready to start.

Phyllis at the "taking
money table" -- $4 per
serving.  Not too bad
for a really good meal!

Some of the early eaters.

Merve Stauffer, when serving
was about done.

This photo was taken
early in the morning,
before the cooking
was finished and before
people started showing
up for breakfast.
Virgle Greene,
Bill McConnell and
Merve Stauffer were
working up the eggs, etc., while
Phyllis was getting supplies from the refrigerator.

This morning was
quite damp.
I took this about 9:15 am
when it was 74% humidty
and 68 degrees.

Phyllis, along with a couple others, is involved with putting on the Valentine's Day meal and program tomorrow evening.  They are having the meal catered and has a program following.  Lot of decorating this morning and to have the Rec Hall closed at 11 am tomorrow after church for all the setup.  Think there are around 140 tickets sold.

Later, Lynn
