In Cape

 In Cape Girardeau, MO.

Left our trailer in campground at Starvy Creek Bluegrass Festival near Conway, MO on Saturday morning and drove the 270 miles to Cape.

We have a room in the Chateau Girardeau where my brother Don & his wife Vicki live in their Assisted Living apartment.

Mike & Mary Jo Diamond, Don & Vicki, and Phyllis & I went to the Cape Girardeau Country Club last evening for supper and a good visit.  With the regional fair in progress here in town (and a lot of vehicles there as we drove by) we were the only guests there.

After eating we returned to Don & Vicki's apartment and Mike & Mary Jo stopped by with ice cream treats.  Their son owns an ice cream store here in town and has only made-in-the-store ice cream and it delicious.

On Friday, after arriving at Starvy Creek, we set up the trailer and then got our spot for the Festival by leaving chairs near the stage.  A lot were already there.
Have a level spot with both electricity and water and are not too far walking to the stage area.

Will write more later,
L Carroll

Off for Starvy Creek Bluegrass Festival

85 degrees with sunshine here in Clarinda, IA at 3:45 pm Wednesday.

Haven't written in the blog for a while.  Not doing a lot.

With some cooler weather the lawn has 'slowed down"

a bit and once-a-week mowing handles it.  (In spite of what was said above, it is now 1:30 pm Thursday and is 83ยบ and muggy here.  I had intended to mow the lawn today, but it isn't tall enough to do any good.  Hope the 10-day absence won't let it get too tall.

Final loading of the trailer today.  Will be gone 10 days and since not too long until we head south are packing some things that will remain in the trailer and back of the pickup until we get to The Rio Grande Valley in late October.

These flowers had gotten really tall over the summer and were leaning way out of the area they are planted in.. Pulled them back and anchored them so they can re-seed within the area.

Have posted several pictures during the summer of these flower pots. The "bloom" is gone.

A month or so ago picture of these flowers.

Last Sunday was first day of the season for Sunday School and one of the Women's Circles of the church provided a brunch after the early service.  Lots of good food, especially various egg casseroles.

Couple pictures of some of the vegetables friends have given us this summer. Tomatoes and (below) Zucchini.

I changed out the water heater rod which is covered with an anode material to help protect the metal of the tank in the trailer.

You can see the amount eaten away at left.  Below shows the calcium sediment I flushed out of the tank before replacing it.

Hope I can get some good WIFI while we are gone and can post updates.  10-day weather forecast for Conway, MO shows chances of rain about every day we will be there with high temperatures in the mid to upper 80's.

Some articles I think interesting

Meet "Sampson," the world's strongest and biggest horse, born in 1799 on a farm in Alberta, Canada. Sampson is a Shire horse, a breed known for their impressive size and strength. From a young age, Sampson stood out from the rest, with a voracious appetite and an insatiable desire to grow.

As he matured, Sampson's incredible strength became apparent. He could pull loads of over 5,000 pounds and run at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour. His massive size - he stood at an astonishing 20.3 hands (68 inches or 173 cm) tall and weighed over 2,000 pounds - made him a gentle giant, with a heart to match.

Sampson's fame spread far and wide, with appearances at horse shows, parades, and even film and television productions. He became a beloved celebrity, known for his intelligence, kindness, and unwavering strength

Supertanker Seawise Giant was twice as long as Titanic. Actually, it was so huge it couldn’t navigate neither the English Channel, Suez Canal, or Panama Canal.
Although fascinatng, the story of Seawise Giant is far less known than the story of Titanic.
With a length of 458 meters (1,504 feet) Seawise Giant was the longest self-propelled ship ever built.
Seawise Giant also possessed the largest deadweight tonnage of 564,763 tons.
It could carry 4.1. million barrels of crude oil at a relatively high speed of 16.5 knots (30.6 km/h; 19.0 mph).
Two Mitsubishi steam turbins provided a stunning 50,000 horsepowers.
When at full speed, Seawise Giant needed 9 kilometers (5.5 miles) to stop.
The rudder weighed 230 tons, the propeller weighed 50 tons, and the anchor weighed 36 tons.
Supertanker’s initial purpose was to trnsport crude oil between the United States and the Middle East.
Surprisingly, it required only 40 men crew.

Imagine a road that winds between imposing mountains until it touches the sky! The Stelvio Pass is a true colossus of the Italian Alps, located in Trentino-Alto Adige. At 2,757 meters above sea level, it is one of the highest paved mountain passes in Europe. Its road is full of hairpin bends, with 48 on the north side, offering stunning views of snow-capped peaks and alpine landscapes. This pass is legendary in the world of cycling and motorsports, being a challenge due to both its height and its complexity, and an incomparable tourist destination for lovers of adventure and nature.

BE HAPPY

 1. When one door closes and another door opens, you are probably in prison.

2. To me, "drink responsibly" means don't spill it.

3. Age 60 might be the new 40, but 9:00 pm is the new midnight.

4. It's the start of a brand new day, and I'm off like a herd of turtles.

5. The older I get, the earlier it gets late.

6. When I say, "The other day," I could be referring to any time between yesterday and 15 years ago.

7. I remember being able to get up without making sound effects.

8. I had my patience tested. I'm negative.

9. Remember, if you lose a sock in the dryer, it comes backas a Tupperware lid that doesn't fit any of your containers.

10. If you're sitting in public and a stranger takes the seat next to you, just stare straight ahead and say, "Did you bring the money?"

11. When you ask me what I am doing today, and I say "nothing," it does not mean I am free. It means I am doing nothing.

12. I finally got eight hours of sleep. It took me three days, but whatever.

13. I run like the winded.

14. I hate when a couple argues in public, and I missed the beginning and don't know whose side I'm on.

15. When someone asks what I did over the weekend, I squint and ask, "Why, what did you hear?"

16. When you do squats, are your knees supposed to sound like a goat chewing on an aluminum can stuffed with celery?

17. I don't mean to interrupt people. I just randomly remember things and get really excited.

18. When I ask for directions, please don't use words like "east."

19. Don't bother walking a mile in my shoes. That would be boring. Spend 30 seconds in my head. That'll freak you right out.

20. Sometimes, someone unexpected comes into your life out of nowhere, makes your heart race, and changes you forever. We call those people cops.

21. My luck is like a bald guy who just won a comb.

Clarinda Air Show

77 degrees with bright sunshine here in Clarinda, IA at 2:00 pm Sunday.

Had some storm warnings last few days but did not have much activity here.

Had just under .7" rain from those clouds.

Yesterday was Clarinda Fly In at the airport.  We watched from our lawn chairs on the neighbor to the east's lawn.  In shade of a tree and nice cool breeze.

Below are pictures from Facebook actually taken down at the airport.  Was no shade and looks crowded.

Two different days we ate on the deck.  One at right is yesterday and a helicopter, taking people for rides, flew over us more than a dozen times.  Going west from the north end of the airport they were about 100 feet above us to the north.  Going back to the airport they were about 50 feet directly above our house.  Didn't get any photos, but could see the people on the ride since doors were removed on both sides.  Advertisement had $90 per seat with maximum of 10 per ride.
