Busy time here in the Rio Grande Valley

75 degrees at 7:00 pm here in La Feria, TX; been nice day -- lots of wind.

Many in the park are up to the Rec Hall with lots of food and drink watching the Super Bowl.

I went up long enough to take some pictures for our Activity Director to put on Facebook tomorrow

We went some 38 miles to the west yesterday.  Stopped at Costco, Sam's Club and then spent a few hours at the National Butterfly Center.

Was a little disappointed -- our recent freezes killed much of the vegetation that the butterflies depend on.  Everything was really brown and only a few butterflies.  Was heavily overcast and that probably kept some of the remaining butterflies close to home.

Got to see Spike, a tortoise that has had some rough luck.

Then we went on to Bentsen Palm RV Park in Mission where Phyllis' cousin Jan and husband Lynn Frye are staying in their 5th wheeler.

Got a tour of their 5th wheel and then we went to Mr. Crabby's Seafood Restaurant in Mission for a great seafood supper.

I had their combo of Shrimp and scallops. They came in a huge plastic bag totally enclosed that they opened and put in a 12" skillet-like metal pan.  One of the best seafood meals I have ever eaten.

The bell choir performed two songs before the service and accompanied one of the hymns this morning where we were singing in the choir at the First Methodist Church in Harlingen.

Last weekend we went to South Padre Island and looked at the annual sand sculptures.

Before going to the Island we ate at Pelican Station
in Port Isabel, which is on the west end of the
bridge going to South Padre Island.

We had our photo taken for the First Methodist Church in Harlingen Church Directory in January and got the prints this last week.

All for now, Lynn

A nice lunch gathering for Men & Women of A-Chord

73 degrees, bright sunshine, wind with gusts to 23 mph at 11 am on Wednesday.  Well, I didn't make it here on Monday, or Tuesday morning as I said I would, will try now.  We went to Bela Mia's Restaurant with 39 people in attendance from the Barbershop chorus, including spouses and guests.  Had a good gathering.  We sang several songs while waiting to be served and then several quartets got up and sang.  Here are links to two of the quartets -- CLICK HERE  AND CLICK HERE  to listen to them.  I did not try to film any of the whole chorus singing, but we all enjoyed it.  Here are some photos.

Since I am always behind the camera,
I decided to do a selfie of Mein self.

At Left -- All the metal railing at the back door was splotched like it had salt on it.  I gave it another coat.....maybe it will last another few years.

This is just to show -- at right -- it's feast or famine with the cards sometimes.  We played Pegs & Jokers one night when when Linda was still here (I took her to the airport at 4:30 am yesterday for her return to near Albuquerque, NM)  One of the first games I could only draw face cards or aces so had to take a picture of them.

Last Saturday morning a $5 breakfast of pancakes and sliced and fried potatoes with scrambled eggs was served at the hall along with orange juice and coffee.  Was a very good meal.  They made way too much of the potato/egg mix because they decided after making up a big batch that some would not like onions it so made an equal size batch without onions.  Lots left over many took containers home--including us. I just ate the last of ours for breakfast this morning.

Sunday morning we took Pat, Linda and Darlene to church in Harlingen and then ate at Jack in the Box.  Was good food, but found that getting the "Senior Discount, which was applied to the drink) was quite different than many places.  Drinks were $2.79 and they took off fifty-cents!  Whataburger makes the senior drinks at no cost for seniors.

We have Pot Luck supper at the Rec Hall this evening and then we go to Harlengin for choir practice.

More later, Lynn

Third Men & Women of A-Chord barbershop performance of the season

67 degrees in La Feria, TX at 8:45 pm Sunday after really nice sunny day with high of 83 degrees.

Drove the 34 miles west to Aladdin Villas West in Mission, TX to our 3rd Men & Women of A-Chord performance of this season.

Phyllis' cousin Jan Frye & her husband Lynn attended the performance and Jan agreed to take my camera and take pictures.  She started off with a selfie of themselves.  Below are a few of her pictures.  We had 100 paying attendees and a very receptive audience, enjoying not only our singing, but the jokes told between songs by our director Bob.

Jan took over 70 pictures and I am showing a few here.

Did several other things this week, but I am beat right now and will have to make another post in the morning.
