Slow time

84º and mostly sunny here in Clarinda, IA at 12:30 pm Sunday.

Having lunch on the deck

Some Juliet tomatoes showing up

Tree at Roger's really growing.

Last Tuesday we were in Lincoln and had lunch and a nice visit at my brother Roger's.  Hadn't seen them for a year.  He has returned to working some hours again at Sam's.

Had been having a lot of stuff tipped over on the deck out back.  Set out the trap and discovered this guy in it the next morning.  This city dweller is now a country dweller.
Beside the garage

This field is about a half-mile away.

Got the two Lilac seedlings planted.

These are really bright in the sun.

Not much going on and we are spending almost all our time around the house.

More old photos

It has been hot here.  Omaha TV weather guy said it was longest hottest period of time on record for June.  8 days straight over 90 degrees.  To cool down tomorrow.

I failed to mention yesterday that the day before - June 6th, was both the birthday of my Mother and the wedding Anniversary of Mom & Dad.  Mom was born in 1907 and passed in December of 1986, having lived  79 years, 6 months, 3 days.  They were married on June 6th in 1934 and had been married 43 years, 9 months, 19 days when Dad passed in March of 1978.

In digging further in old pictures here I came up with black and white negatives, apparently from the professional photographer at the time.  These are from March 10, 1963.

Some colored photos below are what I already had on the computer.  Though the color is nice, the black and white photos are much, much sharper.

Warm in Iowa

93º and very bright sunshine here in Clarinda, IA at 5:00 pm Sunday.
These baby birds think it is hot.  They are in a nest just outside our bedroom window.

Spent more time trimming dead branches
from the huge Pin Oak tree at the
southwest corner of our house.
Looking down from the ladder.

When I was washing some of the sawdust off
my arms the other day it reminded me
of my Mom standing at the sink at
our farm house near Oconto, Nebraska
in the heat of summer and no
air conditioning.  This was in the 1950's and she
would run cold water over her wrists,
saying that would help cool her all over.

Warm day

91º here in Clarinda, IA at 4:15 pm with a "feel like" of 97º.

Planted the last 5 Norway Spruce seedlings in milk jugs for time being.

If any of the ones dies that planted
in the ground, I will try one of these.

After all the time I spent trimming the very overgrown hedge at the back of the lot, it is now in full bloom and looking pretty decent.

Have only a few blooms on the
Clematis plant on the trellis
at the northeast corner
of the garage.

Caught this Daisy in bright sunshine.

Just after I took the photo
above, this insect
landed on it.

Got started on second  wooden tomato cage

Finished the book at right and now working my way through book on the left.

GROANER'S CORNER:((   A young gal was driving home and got caught in a really bad hailstorm. Her car was covered with dents, so the next day she took it to a repair shop. The shop owner saw that she was young and naive, so he decided to have some fun. He told her just to go home and blow into the tailpipe really hard, and all the dents would pop out.  So, she went home, got down on her hands and knees and started blowing into her car's tailpipe. Nothing happened. She blew a little harder, and still nothing happened.  Her roommate, another wet behind the ears young gal, came home and said, "What are you doing?"  The first girl told her how the repairman had instructed her to blow into the tailpipe in order to get all the dents to pop out. Her roommate rolled her eyes and said, "HELLLLO" "You need to roll up the windows first."--------------------

It was very crowded and noisy in this Restaurant and this lady asks the waiter where the restroom was. He says: "I can't hear you!"  So she gets close to his ear and asks again: "Can you please tell me where the ladies room is?"  And he replies: "On the other side!"  So she turns around and gets close to his other ear, and asks: "Can you please tell me where the ladies room is, please!"

June is here!

One month.  One month ago tonight we were unloading the pickup and trailer as we had just driven the almost 1,200 miles from our Texas home.  Lots done in that month, but just around the place.  Only venture out of town was last weekend when we spent time with the kids in Marengo, IA.  On the way through Des Moines coming back we made stops at Aldi's for groceries and at Costco.  Got some $1.549 gas at Costco, and of course, their fantastic all-beef foot-long hot-dogs and drinks - $3.14 tax included for the both of us!  Also picked up some other items.  At both places over 95% of the people were wearing face-masks, as we were, as recommended for the Covid-19.

The couple of rose bushes
in front of the house on the west
side, between the big green bushes,
are blooming.  Here are
a couple pictures.

The condenser to the air conditioner
was quite off-level, so
worked at it today.  Phyllis helped
me get some bricks placed underneath
to bring it back to level.

Last summer I ordered some Norway Spruce
through the Arbor Day Foundation and
they came Monday.  Got half of them
planted - two of them that will eventually
replace the tree near where planted.

Others will be planted in some milk
jugs, to replace any that die.

Will be around the place this week - go to Lincoln, NE next Tuesday as a final year-follow up on my heart surgery that was a year ago this Thursday.
