St. Patrick's Day tomorrow

53ยบ here in La Feria, TX at 10:10 am  Saturday morning- rained much of the night.  try listening to THIS SITE while viewing the Blog.

Wednesday evening was free soup supper for all the
residents.  Frozen left-over bean soup from Christmas
and turkey-noodle soup from Thanksgiving

Sleeves rolled up, collar up and wearing sunglasses for In the Still of the Night
"Shoo Wapp Shoo Doo"

After the soup supper we drove a few miles west to Weslaco, TX to Pine to Palm RV park where I participated in the last of 11 performances the Men of A-Chord barbershop group performed this year.  This photo is of one of our 1950's songs.

Phyllis videoed the entire program and you can listen/watch by CLICKING HERE

Couple of our chorus members live at this park and they had arranged to have cake and  soft-serve ice cream served afterwards.  Since Phyllis & I did not get to the Valentine supper this year (we were still on our cruise ship) which is the time people can mingle and visit with the men and their wives, this was a chance to do some visiting.  Here are some of the photos I took at that time.  Those of you in the chorus might enjoy.

Phyllis had worked for several weeks on the "Adios party" which was held Thursday in lieu of the Thursday afternoon Meet & Greet.  She prepared (with help) the lasagna, baked beans, and green-beans with chicken casserole that was served around 4  pm.  She recognized all in the park that were celebrating birthdays in March (including herself) by furnishing cake.

Before that meal she had games and activities.
I made popcorn for all.

Some of the table games.

We had nearly 100 people attend

Water balloon games were held by those much younger in
mind and body than myself.  They seemed to enjoy, though.

Is this guy using his head, or what!

I stored the cabbage, potatoes, carrots and onions in
the Texas room for the people who are preparing the
St. Pat's Day dinner today.  Yesterday I wheeled them
down to the kitchen on the 2-wheeler turned into a 4-wheeler.

With the last "big" event of the season over, Phyllis can relax a little, though she has 2 weeks left as Activity Director.   We didn't even wake up this Saturday morning until 9:15 am, so she is catching up on a little sleep.

GROANER'S CORNER:((  This preacher was looking for a good used lawnmower one day. He found one at a yard sale that Little Johnny happened to be manning."This mower work, son?" the preacher asked.Little Johnny said, "Sure does...just pull on the cord hard, though."The preacher took the mower home and when he got ready to mow he yanked and pulled and tugged on that cord. Nothing worked. It wouldn't start.  Thinking he'd been swindled, he took the mower back to Little Johnny's house. "You said this would work if I pulled on the cord hard enough.""Well," Johnny said, "you need to cuss at it sometimes."The preacher was aghast. "I've not done that in years!""Just keep yanking on that cord, Preacher. It'll come back to you."

Lost on a rainy night, a nun stumbles across a monastery and requests shelter there. Fortunately, she's just in time for dinner and was treated to the best fish and chips she's ever had. After dinner, she goes into the kitchen to thank the chefs. She is met by two brothers, "Hello, I'm Brother Michael, and this is Brother Charles." "I'm very pleased to meet you. I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful dinner. The fish and chips were the best I've ever tasted. Out of curiosity, who cooked what?" Brother Charles replied, "Well, I'm the fish friar." She turns the other brother and says, "Then you must be...?" "Yes, I'm the chip monk."

"How the diet going?" "Not good, I had eggs for breakfast." "Scrambled?" "No, chocolate." -------------------------------------

Tuesday

O Canada! Our home and native land... True patriot love --- in all they sons command.  With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free!    From far and wide, O--Canada, We stand on guard for thee.  God keep our land glorious and free!.........O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.  O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
I have to have these words, and the notes and rhythm to go with them memorized by this afternoon.  Our last concert, tomorrow night, is in an RV Park that is reportedly 75% Canadians, so we are going to substitute our normal God Bless the USA with O Canada.  Think the chorus has sung it other years, but not in the last 2 years I have been with them.  Just downloaded an MP3 version and singing with it.

A friend sent this photo of our opening song at the Methodist
Church in McAllen on March 3rd.

Monday Phyllis put on the last, of the season, bingo and monthly lunch at Gatti's Pizza in Harlingen.  Think she had 60-some people there.

Look for the birds.......

Wednesday was the last Pot-Luck dinner for the season

Just thought would show you what pureed vegetables look like

Sounds like it is raining in southwest Iowa.  Talked with oldest brother Roger in Lincoln, NE this morning (this is his 82nd birthday) and he said finally some warm - melting weather.  Has been a long January-February with all the cold and snow.  And we complain, a little, when the temperature here falls into the 50's for a few hours.  Last few days has been anywhere from 97 degrees to 86 degrees for daily highs.  No snow drifts.

56th wedding anniversary

Yesterday, March 10th, was our 56th wedding anniversary.  We did not celebrate.  I was in my 4th day of having lots and lots of canker sores on tongue, throat and all around mouth, so we did nothing --  I didn't even go to church and ate my lunch by pureeing what I did eat.  Missed my concert with the Magic Valley Men of A-Chord last evening.  Only have one concert left, this Wednesday.  Hope I can utter a few words in tune by that time.

Did go to the Kenwood RV Park once-a-month Bingo and lunch at Gatti's Pizza in Harlingen today.

Will post some photos of some things later, Lynn

Cool, cool

58ยบ with heavy overcast at 2 pm Wednesday

Today is Doris Winter's 80th birthday and tomorrow is Harold Neher's 92nd birthday.  We went out with them and Raabs to breakfast at Los Leon's in La Feria for breakfast this morning.

Noticed the limp leaves - guess it was colder than we thought
went to Barbershop practice yesterday.

Went by this pickup on fire on way back home from
Barbershop practice Tuesday.
Been cool and wet for many days.  Have Meet and Greet at 4:00 pm and then Pot Luck supper at 5:00 pm and then go to Pegs & Jokers at Butch's place afterwards.   Way too busy for being retired.

Flyer is out for Goldwing Express cruise next year.  Looks like it will be going out of Los Angeles.  Will have to think over whether we want to fly out and back to do this cruise.

Rainy Monday

38ยบ with rain at 10:30 am Monday.
Been a busy time last several days.  After having the nearly all day picnic at Weslaco City Park on Wednesday we had Sew & Share Thursday, (still 38ยบ at 4:20 pm when I re-start this now) , went on 3.5 hour boat cruise from South Padre Island to Brownsville, TX through the man-made channel on Friday.  Went to dress rehearsal Friday evening after setting up some stuff for yard sale in the afternoon.  Saturday sold a few things at the yard sale, left about 11 am for Pharr, TX where we visited Sam's Club and Costco (Got gas for $2.05) and then to the combined concert with the Sweet Adelines in San Juan, TX.  Afterwards we met Ardel & Marion and Harold & LaRhoda at Willy's Hamburgers in Pharr.  Sunday sang with the church choir and then went with Harold & LaRhoda to eat at Luby's Cafeteria in Harlingen and in the late afternoon met two other Men of A-Chord men in Weslaco and rode with them to a concert at Methodist Church in McAllen.  To exercise this morning and then the Kenwood Association meeting.  Developed a "sponge head" cold and have kept close to handkerchiefs this afternoon.
Will try to get a few photos on here of the last few days.
Our boat before boarding at 8:30 am
