Clarinda, IA visitors from Washington state

59 degrees and foggy in La Feria, TX at 7:30 am on Friday.

Tuesday Jack and Janeen Preeo, Phyllis' Classmates at Clarinda, IA High School, from Medical Lake, Washington, came to our place.
We have been showing them some of the area, but Janine became ill yesterday and spent the day in bed while Phyllis was at the quilting day down at the hall.

 Jack and Janeen at
Stefano's Pizza place
in Harlingen

 Went to the Mexican
Flea Market in Alamo,
Texas on Wednesday.
Got some bargains,
and some vegetables.

Ate at Willie's Bar-B-Que in Alamo

 I am continuing
to work on the
plywood sheets I
brought from Clarinda and
putting on the ceiling in the
Texas Room.

Stopped in a bit
at the Hall Thursday while the
women were working on
their quilts to give to
the needy in the Valley

Plan on going to South Padre Island (After
Choir Practice) if Janeen feels like it.
Look at the gulf and also get
some sea food under our belts.

Plan on going to Mexico at Progreso on Saturday.

Did get in over 18 miles on the trike yesterday--needing to catch up from some of the days it was raining and didn't ride!

Rain stopped!

48 degrees and finally stopped raining sometime in the night.  Still heavily overcast--as it has been for nearly a week--and it rained constantly from New Years Eve until this morning.  Never raining hard, but a steady drizzle for 4 days, and overcast for more than a week.  Dumped 1.25" of rain from the rain gauge a bit ago.

Had not left the house from afternoon of December 31st until went to church this morning January 3rd.  Got a lot of football bowl games watched (Iowa lost) Rose Parade watched and movies seen, Discovery channel watched and books read.

This was taken of my
temperature gauge just outside
of the front door - 88% humidty
and 48 degrees at 12:45 pm New
Years Day.

Have not had the cycles out during this period.

I did check on the settings for this blog and think I have changed the comment section so anyone can comment without any registration like it was in the past.

Heading over to DonWes flea market in a bit, out to eat with the Winslow's and then to Sam's Club in McCallen where we can get some cappuccino that isn't available for some reason at the Sam's Club here in Harlingen.

We begin 2016

50ยบ and rain, here in the Rio Grande Valley at La Feria, TX

Surprisingly, we saw the new year come in.  Several neighbors here in Kenwood came over for food and Pegs & Jokers.  Quit just before 11pm so could see ball drop in New York City and then all visited until 2016 reached here.  Lots of good food brought by all.

On Wednesday evening we had a great pot-luck supper at the hall.  Good turn out and a variety of food.

Been rainy (mostly just a light drizzle-had only 1/10th of an inch yesterday morning, but must check now as it got a little more serious overnight) for the last couple days and forecast is for another 3-4 days of it.
Note 55 degrees with 86% humidity --  this is on the porch just outside our front door.  And, as always here in the Valley, the wind keeps blowing.

One of our neighbors, who has a full-time family living beside him that put a garden in the back of Butch Giesking's place and Butch invited me to pull any of the over-grown radishes or turnips.  Little old, but not too bad.

I stepped into the Rec Hall Tuesday afternoon long enough to hear one rendition of some Blue Grass music.  They had a pretty good turnout.
Phyllis was helping with the serving cake and coffee (for donation) at the break.  I did not stay for that.  Had to pedal a bit.  Have been putting 15 miles on much of the time each day, until this rain moved in.  Still did 4 miles 2 days.  Will see how much of a break in the weather today there is.

Have Rose Parade on TV as I type this at 10:50 am.  Iowa Band just coming up.  Haven't had breakfast yet, it may stretch into brunch or lunch.   Phyllis' sister and husband are in Pasadena for the Football game, but don't know if they are attending the parade live.

More later, Lynn
