At our winter home in La Feria, Texas

La Feria, TX - 71 degrees.

Well, I find it harder all the time to write the blog.  Will try to list our travels on the 15 days we came from Clarinda.

This is as we arrived Sunday evening - parked the trailer next to our Mobile Home so can move stuff over.

We left Clarinda Sunday noon October 18th and stopped south of Kirksville, MO where we visited our youngest granddaughter Emily and her BF Vince.

We then went on to Jefferson City, MO and toured the Missouri State Capitol.

From there we drove to just north of Cape Girardeau, MO where we stayed Tuesday night and Wednesday night at an RV Park where we met my brother Darrell & his wife Lin from Miami.  We spent time with our older brother Don & his wife Vicki in Cape Girardeau.

On Thursday we headed south and stopped in New Madrid, Missouri at their Historical Museum, dedicated mostly about the earth quakes along the New Madrid Line

From New Madrid we drove over to Nashville, TN where we set up in a park close to the Grand Ole Opry.

On Friday we toured the Tennessee State Capitol there in Nashville.

We left the capitol and drove to the State Fair Grounds where some 2,000 exhibitors had booths at a flea market.
Lots of people watching, product looking, and some buying we headed back to our trailer
and then went to the Grand Ole Opry where we had tickets for the Friday night radio show.  We saw many acts -
If I remembered all the names I would put them on here.

At left is Mike Snyder who I have always enjoyed.

John Conlee...................................................

Of course, this is Loretta Lynn.

We drove from Nashville down the Natchez Trace Parkway southwest.  Took many photos of trees as the leaves were very colorful.  We got off the Trace near Jackson, MS and did a tour of that State Capitol.  Stayed one night at camp just north of Jackson - went on to Hazelhurst, MS and spent couple nights in yard of Phyllis' cousin Stan Runyan and his wife Ann.  Toured the library on Co-Lin College where a 50-year history display was set up.

Drove further southwest on the Natchez and spent one night near Lake Charles, LA before getting to Galveston where we parked in front of cousin Ruth Sunderman Davis' house--we stayed in her house while it rained the entire weekend.  Her sister Janice Sunderman Asfor flew in from San Francisco and the three girls had a fun weekend remembering growing up near Clarinda, IA.

Sunday morning we drove from Galveston to Rockport, TX and ate lunch with Don & Bessy Runyan who had just arrived the day before at their winter home.  We made it to our Kenwood RV Park just at sunset on this first day of the regular time set as Daylight Savings had ended that morning.

Have drained and re-filled the water heater (Smelled bad as it has each fall and this flushing helped greatly in that respect)  Mosquitoes are huge and plentiful, probably because of all the recent rains, got as high as 87 degrees today.

Maybe more later, Lynn

On the road again

Nashville, TN - 72º and super-humid.  Slight off-and-on showers

We are in Nashville this Saturday morning- went to Grand Ole Opry  live Friday night broadcast last night.

We left our home in Clarinda, IA last Sunday about 11:30 am after singing in the choir at church.  Drove to St. Joe, MO and then took 36 east to near Macon, Missouri where we set up the trailer and then drove some 37 miles north to Kirksville, MO where youngest granddaughter Emmy and her SO Vince live.  Visited with them short time (they had just returned from near Minneapolis, MN where Vince had been in a wedding on Saturday.  We returned to our trailer for the night and drove back north Monday morning to visit with Emmy.
Heath had to leave for work by 7:00 am which is why we had visited with him the evening before.   She showed us her apartment and we went out for brunch then she showed us the town and where she works at TV Station north of town.

After leaving Emmy we went back south, hooked up the trailer and drove on south to Jefferson City, MO.

Leaves were just a little past most brilliant colors, but still lots of color as we drove down 63.

Crossing the Missouri River near Jefferson City.

View of Capital as we got near.

Missouri State Capital.  We had a good tour - a busload of senior citizens from Oklahoma and Kansas had a limited time and after about 45 minutes with them we finished the tour being the only ones with the guide.

They have a room that is full mural - depicting all types of people and making a living in Missouri.  The guide told a lot of the stories behind each area of the murals.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about all aspects Missouri, from the fact that Missouri leads the nation in Lead Mining to the sports between St. Louis & Kansas City.  Here he stands by a bust of Emmett Kelly, Sr. who was from Missouri.  He was a leading Rodeo Clown and his son carries on in his stead now.

This photo is a little out of order.

Three of the four Miles Brothers, Don, Lynn & Darrell, left to right.  We were posing at the Missouri River just north of Cape Girardeau, MO on Wednesday, October 21st.  We spent time with Darrell's who camped beside us with their motor home for couple nights.

One week to departure

55º in Clarinda, IA - was 42º earlier.  Predicted high today of 75º and tomorrow a record-breaker 87º.
Click on any photo to enlarge - click on links to see where they lead.

Well, lets see -- been a week since I wrote.  What have we done this last week other than getting ready to pull out with our trailer a week from tomorrow (Oct. 23rd)

Last Sunday we went, with Bonnie & Leland Brown, to the program at the local Museum.  Fort Meigs, near Toledo, Ohio, and the War of 1812 was the subject. Click HERE for Fort Meigs history
Rick Finch had been the curator there for many years ad was able to talk of the building of the fort and history of the battles fought near it.

That was the first day the Museum had the US flag with POW flag below it, and all Armed Service flags flying on the newly installed poles near the Freedom Rock in front of the Museum along Highway 71.  They did not have lights installed at that time so would be taking them down at night, but are planning on installing lights for 24-hour service.

Have ridden several times down to the airport and around the apron (.9 mile around it).  This plane sitting there several days - a bit unusual.  We very seldom see activity at the airport -- other than the back-up helicopter was in a hanger with door open one day - apparently being checked out, though no one was around.

Fall colors of leaves starting in Clarinda

Waited in line one day to cash in a few deposit-pop cans.

Phyllis finished quilting this quilt that was one of someones at church.

On our ride with trikes -- this house decorated for Halloween -- across street from Westridge Nursing Home.

This is the frame with photos taken last May for the Church Directory.  We didn't get it until back from our summer trip.

Gradually getting things packed in the back of the pickup that we want to take to our house in Texas.  We plan to pull out at noon next Sunday.  Have lined up to spend some time near Cape Girardeau to visit brother Don and his wife and also Brother Darrell and his wife will be there with their RV the middle of the next week.

Fall Temps in SW Iowa

60 degrees at 10:30 am Saturday October 3, 2015.  Was 42 degrees at 7:30 am.

Thursday evening we picked up our "country neighbors" (when we lived west of Clarinda on Highway 2) Jim and Evelyn Whipple and Marcene VonDiligan and went to Red Oak to eat at the Pizza Ranch.  Afterward we ate a lemon pie that Phyllis had made (The last of the lemons we picked at Don Ferguson's place in our RV Park in Texas).

Yesterday Carolyn & Al Ruhde came by, on their way to Ames for Iowa State football game today, and we ate lunch at Runza here in town.  Got caught up on visiting since we have only been here couple weeks and leave again in couple weeks.

To you followers of my blog -- I used to have all the photos we take available on my Picasa web site.  They changed their setup a little and I wasn't able to see how to make them available to the public.  After a little nudge from Rosie Busch about needing to see the pictures I studied it and found it simple, though different than it had been, and got them turned on.  Keep in mind that I still am going through and editing them and putting labels on.  Here are the sites:

A page of Links to my Picasa websites with Miles 2015 summer trip photos.

These are from our summer trip.  If you want to look around, and/or download any, feel free to do so.

Going to go outside and kill some Poison Ivy in the back yard now.

October 2015 is here!

55 degrees here this morning in Clarinda, IA.
Been a week since I wrote; lets see, what have we done.

Oh yeah, we went to Hiawatha, Kansas Monday to visit with our next-door neighbors Harold and LaRoada Nehr.  Picked some apples from their trees, had a terrific lunch and then played Pegs & Jokers for a few hours.  We had driven down Highway 71 and stopped in St. Joe, MO on the way; and on the way back we drove north in to Nebraska and then crossed into Missouri at Rulo.  Stopped at John Metzger's place in Mound City, MO but he was not home.  Lots of crops on the verge of being harvested in southeast Nebraska and Southwest Iowa.  Nehr's were about half done with corn, working slowly as it was still carrying some moisture.

Tuesday night we drove to Red Oak, IA and helped with the square dance entertaining at nursing home on the north side of town, eating afterwards at the Pizza Ranch.  Last night we rode the trikes up to the church for choir practice.  Since we are finished around 7 pm it was just about starting to get late by time we got home.  Don't like to ride on the public streets after dark.
Tonight we are taking our "country neighbors" Jim & Evelyn Whipple and Marcelene Von Dilligan out to supper.  Not sure where we will eat.

Only 18 days and we will be hooked on to the trailer and heading south.  So far, our plans include staying that night in an RV Park just south of Kirksville, MO and visiting our granddaughter Emily and her roommate Vince, then going on south to Jefferson City, MO for a state capitol tour.  Will go on over to Cape Girardeau and spend some time with brother Don and his wife Vicki.  We have tickets to see the Grand Ole Opry  on Friday night the 23rd.  Plan on going south to tour Mississippi's capital in Jackson and then spend a few nights near Hazelhurst, MS and visit with Phyllis' cousin Stan Runyon and his wife Ann.  Then, if my brother Darrell is coming with their RV up to meet us near Pensacola, FL we will go that way and spend a few days with them.  After that will head for south Texas, maybe stopping at Phyllis' Cousin Rusty Heuer at Elkhart, TX and maybe her cousin Ruth Davis in Houston before getting to our place in La Feria, TX in early November.

September slippin' on by

73º in Clarinda, IA -  Looking rainy, but radar not showing much coming.

Had a tire off the trailer and this praying mantis came strolling around.

Had the wheel off so could remove the temporary mud flap I put on before our trip with the better one Richard Messer made when we were at his place in Minnesota, but elected not to remove the wheel so we could drill through the support to hang the mud flap.

And the mudflap that Richard put on.

Phyllis' sister, Beth, and husband Steve, spent the weekend with us, though were gone to events most of the time.  It was Steve's 50th Class Reunion for the Clarinda High School.

The "formal portrait" of Beth & Steve Gregory.

`Spent way too much time this last week turning this live Prostrate Spurge into........................................................................
this pulled by the root dead Prostrate Spurge.  Sprayed 2,4D on it and the Dandelions, but it didn't seem to have total effect.

Tuesday afternoon we picked up Patty Steckelberg and drove to Nebraska City, picked up a new cable to replace the broken gear shifter cable for my trike, then on to Omaha, NE where we attended Lanny & Carol Weeklend's square dance.  Jerry Junk, from Wayne, NE called with him.

Last night we drove to Villisca for church supper and then
played Skip Bo cards with Mary Jo and Oliver Herzberg.

I don't recall when I started this particular blog, but it is now Friday afternoon.  79 degrees and I dumped .4" of rain this morning from the rain gauge and the same .4" yesterday morning.

Have started some work on ceiling in shop--if it works out will take some of the same scrap plywood I have to Kenwood and put it on the ceiling in the new Texas room.

Maybe later, Lynn
