More rain

Click here for the Moron Brothers
I think you have to have a Facebook account to make this link work.  I really enjoy these two old boys.
67º with rain now at 5:47 pm on Sunday afternoon here in Clarinda, IA.  I dumped .15" of rain from the gauge this morning from over-night rain.  Rain is to continue this afternoon and evening according to the forecast.

Worked some more on hedge at back of the place this morning to the east end and also the big plants that I don't know the name of--when trimmed it back discovered the Tiger Lillie's underneath.  They were completely covered over.

Put the cuttings from the unknown big plants around the little Maple Tree that I planted several years ago.  Photo at right.  It is about 4 feet tall now.  Have cut some of the Cedar Tree branches away over it to let the sun hit it.  Plan to remove the Cedar Tree if and when this Maple gets 8 or 10 feet tall.

Saturday we drove to the Cemetery and placed flowers on sister Louise's headstone, Phyllis' parents and her older sisters stones as well as Phyllis' sister Beth's husband Steve Gregory's parents headstone.

Lots and lots of flags lining the main streets through the cemetery.

This headstone is not being used, just yet.

After we ate a late lunch today, we went riding on the recumbent trikes about 2:30 pm.  Rode a bit around the hospital parking lots and then rode a while around the parking lot of the Cobblestone Inn.

Since it is Sunday and Fairway Grocery is not open on Sundays, we rode several miles on their parking lot before taking a few laps around parking lot at Goldenrod Manor.

From the nursing home we went next door to what used to be Walker-Merrick-Billings Funeral Chapel and is now the Clarinda Mental Health Center, a part of Clarinda Regional Health Center (the Hospital across the street from us).

On getting back to the house (with nearly 5 miles ridden) Phyllis mowed the lawn and I finished picking up the trimmings from the hedge and plants nearby on the northeast corner of the lot behind our storage/workshop building.

I took this picture and the one
below when it was raining
lightly.  It was still as
could be with the windmill
not moving a bit.

Raining on back deck - the flowers that were on the bench are now at the cemetery and I put some of the smaller logs cut from the Mulberry tree last week on it.

Here is an old photo I came up with from 12 years ago -- at the Funeral of my sister, Louise, in 2008.  Taken in the basement of the old Clarinda Methodist Church.  Her funeral was 12 years ago today - May 24, 2008
I will try to come up with another blog posting in a few days - Lynn

Another usual day at home

71º with heavy overcast skies here in Clarinda, IA at 6:00 pm on Friday.

Cutting on the hedge, reached the east end today and discovered a small patch of blue wildflowers in a really small area behind our trees, hedge, and the neighbor's trees.

This piece of the hedge hadn't been trimmed in years and also the patch of flowering somethings was really overgrown also.

Really colorful sunset
but, of course, the camera
doesn't catch what the
eye sees.

Thursday we walked a block and a half, or so to a neighbors estate sale.

Look at all the asshats without face masks.  Only saw maybe 5 people with masks.  And they were not keeping space between them by and large. We left after only 5 or 10 minutes.

Last couple days I have been doing something I have promised myself to do -- scanning slides and old photographs.  Have a ton of them to do (in fact, I took a couple small boxes of photos to Texas the last couple winters and didn't do it there) and will try to get them caught up.

Here are just a few of the photos.
I scanned a ton of slides including
trips to Florida in the '70's, to Michigan-including
crossing Lake Michigan on a big Ferry, to Colorado, and lots of other pictures.

Were Cam and I ever really
this young?

This brings a lot of memories
from Christmas of
1966.

Darrell, where you ever this young?

Dad in his office in
the new south
addition.

Dad and Uncle Jack.  Not sure who the lady is.

A year ago today I was on the operating table in the Heart Hospital in Lincoln, presumebably to get a stint in my heart.  Exploration showed it to be more serious and called for open-heart surgery on June 4th for a 4-way bypass.

Maybe more another time - Lynn

More chainsawing and lopping!

These two pictures of the Iris were taken couple days ago and some of them were brighter.

This tomato plant, that we bought just last Thursday or Friday, is only some 8 or 12 inches tall, but has a blossom on it!

Miss Beatrice, the church organist, was in her eighties and had never been married. She was admired for sweetness and kindness to all. One afternoon the pastor came to call on her and she showed him into her quaint sitting room. She invited him to have a seat while she prepared tea.
As he sat facing her old pump organ, the young minister noticed a cut-glass bowl sitting on top of it. The bowl was filled with water. In the water floated, of all things, a condom! When she returned with tea and scones, they began to chat. The pastor tried to stifle his curiosity about the bowl of water and its strange floater, but soon it got the better of him and he could no longer resist. "Miss Beatrice", he said, "I wonder if you would tell me about this?" pointing to the bowl. "Oh, yes" she replied, "isn't it wonderful?
I was walking through the park a few months ago and I found this little package on the ground. The directions said to place it on the organ, keep it wet and that it would prevent the spread of disease. Do you know I haven't had the flu all winter!" The pastor fainted.
