Kenwood Summer Rally is over for this year

We are in Champaigne, IL at a campground tonight, Friday.  Had great weather today and most of this whole week.  Left State Center, IA about 9:20 this morning after eating breakfast with all the Kenwood RV people.

This photo was taken Wednesday evening.  Earl Osman came several days, but he was not there at the time of the photo.
Ed Stanger really enjoyed his "initiation" of the first timers.

Ed thought it was hilarious to have the 5 first timers stick their finger in a jar of runny-creamy peanut butter while they were blind folded and trying to put their finger at the tail of the donkey.

Ed hid 3 M&Ms in whipped cream and had the 5 find them with their mouth without holding the pie tin.  Of course, he had to jam some of them face first into the pie.

Those who didn't have t-shirts with years marked they
had attended the State Center Rally got new ones
and all marked the extra year

Lots of games were played, including Pegs & Jokers.
Dime Bingo was played

On Wednesday we drove to Newton, IA and toured the office and packing area of Maytag Blue Cheese factory.

The men went as one tour group and the ladies as another.  We both got to sample not only the Blue Cheese they make there, but several other cheeses they have made under their label by other cheese manufacturers.

Kenwood RV 2019 Summer Rally at State Center, IA

11:00 am in Kelo RV Park in State Center, IA at the Kenwood RV Park 2019 Summer Rally.  Has been warm, but nice weather.  Did have a storm move through about 10 pm last night, and from the sound of the rain on the roof of our trailer, wouldn’t be surprised if we got an inch of rain.  Crops look great in this area.
Picture taken when we visited Bill Oberholzer Friday afternoon in his hospital room in Des Moines.  He was feeling quite chipper then.  He passed away about 7:30 am the next morning, Saturday.

Here are some photos when we were at the field for the National Balloon Festival in Indianola, IA on Friday evening.

Friday evening they had a contest where the balloonists (over 100 registered) went up wind and tried to drop a bag on a target in the middle of the field.  Several came real close and many no-where close.

Saturday afternoon/evening 4 skydivers from Des Moines parachuted over the field, swerving and twirling as they came down..

Lots of food vendors on site.  We enjoyed a pizza from this wood-fired brick oven on one truck on Sunday.

Most of the trailers and motor-homes are here now – I think 12 or 13.  We all went to Pizza Ranch in Marshalltown last night for supper and then came back and played some pegs & jokers and also Ed Stanger served ice cream and cake for Dave Gilmore, who will have a birthday in a few days.  I missed it, but couple guys went out to one of Lola’s farms and picked up sweet corn that the renter had already picked, and brought it back yesterday.  They shucked some of it this morning for boiling for supper tonight.  I understand Bud and Roberta, from Illinois, got here this morning, but he wasn’t feeling good, so they went back home.  Couple of couples who will be staying in Marshalltown motels will be arriving today and tomorrow.  We have found that Bill Oberholzer’s Celebration of Life will be Thursday afternoon in Boone and we are all planning on going to it.

Until later, Lynn

In State Center, Iowa

Hot here.  Drove from Lake Ahquabi State Park south of Indianola, IA this morning.  Had camped there 2 nights with Connalley's.  Had taken in 2 evenings of the National Balloon Festival with ideal weather.
We drove to Des Moines on Friday and visited with Bill Oberholzer who had been hospitalized several weeks with pneomonia in the middle of chemo and radiation for lung cancer.  He was very"up" and hoping to get out of the hospital this week so he could come to the Kenwood summer rally a few days.  We left him, Twila, and Bill's cousin from Georgia and her friend about 4pm.  Got a call from Twyla about 7:30 Saturday morning that Bill had passed away.  After getting his vitals at about 7 and all was fine, he buzzed the nurse and was found bleeding from the mouth and nose.  Twyla was called, but he died before she got there.  There was thought of maybe a blood clot and it moved to the heart.  He had said Friday that he had bloody stools, but thought that was from heavy pneomonia meds and reaction to the chemo or radiation.  An autopsy is to be performed and then his body is to be cremated.  Twyla will make plans Monday for a Celebration of Life, probably this week.
With 30 to 40 people from Kenwood to be here this week, we are hoping to attend.
Our rally doesn't start until Tuesday, but but there are 10 or 12 RV's here already this afternoon.

Will try to set up the computer tomorrow and post some pictures.
This is poked out on the phone.

Lots of toy tractors & implements

Tractor similar to one Phyllis drove as a kid, pulling baler
and hay wagon behind.

Similar, without the weights to one of Melvin's tractors.

Visiting with one of the owners, while Bill was
visiting with the other owner.

I think this is similar to Dad's Farmall Regular, except I remember his being all rust colored.  It was the only tractor dad had until he bought the Ford 8N.

Jerry and Joyce Mez own the museum.
Jerry posed with Bill Connelly - a photo
that they will submit to their local Farmall
Club they belong to in Kansas.
Bill & Kathy Connelly parked on our drive.

Bill & Kathy got here Tuesday and we played
some Pegs & Jokers that evening.

We will do some looking around this area today, before we both take off with our trailers to Lake Ahquabi State Park south of Indianola, IA tomorrow.

GROANER'S CORNER:((   A famous admiral and an equally famous general were fishing together when a sudden squall came up. When it died down both eminent warriors were struggling helplessly in the water.  The admiral floundered his way back to the boat and pulled himself painfully in. Then he fished out the general, using an oar.  Catching his breath, he puffed: "Please don't say a word about this to anyone. If the Navy found I can't swim I'd be disgraced.  "Don't worry," the general said. "Your secret is safe. I'd hate to have my men find out I can't walk on water either."

A guy calls the hospital and a nurse answers the phone.  The guy said, "Send help because my wife is going into labor."  The nurse said, "Is this her first child?"  The guy replied, "No, this is her husband."
