Thursday afternoon Helen Miles and Darlene Winslow were in charge of setting up for the Quilt Show which was Friday morning. They had a real good response from many in the park.

Thursday evening Darlene Winslow went with us to Nana's Taqueria in Weslaco. You can read about them HERE and see some photos - I forgot to take any.
Saturday we went with Dick & Deanna Messer, and others, to the Christmas House near Falfurrias, TX. Their Facebook page is HERE

The three "old maid" retired school teachers (91, 82 and 75) open nearly all of their house for tours of all the collections they have of Christmas items (both religious and "Santa stuff") from early October through April. It is the ranch house, isolated some 3 miles or so from the highway, that they grew up in. They still have the smaller house they had lived in while their father built the present house many years ago which they use as a sales office for many items. I have, probably, 50 or so photos, won't show them all. As part of the 3-hour tour they told their history as well as the history of the items we were looking at--- which they change every year.
We returned to the Park from Mission early enough for Phyllis to handle the entertainers for the night's show. |
My Son the Veterinarian.
One Sunday, in counting the money in the weekly offering, the Pastor of a small church found a pink envelope containing $1,000. It happened again the next week!
The following Sunday, he watched as the offering was collected and saw an elderly woman put the distinctive pink envelope on the plate. This went on for weeks until the pastor, overcome by curiosity, approached her.
"Ma'am, I couldn't help but notice that you put $1,000 a week in the collection plate," he stated.
"Why yes," she replied, "every week my son sends me money. I give some of it to the church."
The pastor replied, "That's wonderful. But $1000 is a lot, are you sure you can afford this? How much does he send you?"
The elderly woman answered, "$10,000 a week."
The pastor was amazed. "Your son is very successful; what does he do for a living?" "He is a veterinarian," she answered..
"That's an honorable profession, but I had no idea they made
that much money," the pastor said. "Where does he practice?"
The woman answered proudly, "In Nevada..... He has two
cat houses, one in Las Vegas, and one in Reno."
