A full day of music at Starvy Creek

75 degrees and overcast at Starvy Creek near Conway, MO.  Rain had been predicted  for much of yesterday afternoon and through the night and again today; but, they have all bypassed us so far.  One more day of entertainment starting at noon until 10 pm tonight.  No the local farmers really nead the rain, but hoping it holds off one more day.

The two different times The Kody Norris performed yesterday.

Group at right are Classy and Grassy.  They are a young group.  Boy on the right did the talking and said that the fiddle player was 14.  The fiddle player's sister (not in this picture) looked to be maybe 16, though he didn't mention her age.  The short fella beside him is his brother who he said was 14.  He mentioned at one time that the taller guy, playing the doghouse bass, was the only one who had a drivers license so he did the driving.  They were really good singers and players.

group.

Some of the entertainment on Friday

I'm told this guy, with this hair, etc., shows
up this way every year at this festival.

This is on 60 acres and this view
is from the road coming back from Marshfield.

Several Mennonite farms in the area.

Had some excellent catfish with fries, and an order of deep-fried cheese curds.

We will pull out of here in the morning and go to Cape Girardeau to spend some time with brother Don and his wife Vicki in their Assisted Living Apartment.

Punches Family and Classy Grassy at The Starvy Creek Bluegrass Festival

76 degrees and cloudy here at Starvy Creek, near Conway, MO at 10:30 am Thursday, with predicted high of 84 degrees and no rail.  Earlier predictions had been rain chances each day.

Many gathered for a potluck supper.  Lots of good food.  Many in the campers here didn't come--their loss.

Had several small groups perform.  These young boys are from east Texas.

This new (to us) group, Classy Grassy, is taking the place of scheduled That Dalton Gang, which just recently disbanded.

Below is The Punches Family.  We have heard them many times in the Rio Grande Valley.

With overcast skies, feels good even with temperatures in the 80's.  More tomorrow.

Activities starting at Starvy Creek Bluegrass Festival

87º and muggy with lots of sunshine, though rain is forecast, at Starvy Creek, near Conway, MO, at 2:40 pm Wednesday.

Slept in this morning, walked around the grounds.  Although a lot of units (Class A's, Class C's, Class B's, 5th wheelers, travel trailers, tents, in about any age & shape you can think of.  There appears to be quite a few spaces that have electricity still available, though.

We set out our chairs on Sunday.  This

is the view we will have of the stage.

Looking from
other side towards
our chairs.

This elderly couple has this old

trailer - no bathroom, no TV.

This Chevy goes with the trailer above - at right.

taken last evening as

we walked around.

At right:  Rhonda Vincent showed up yesterday.  One of her band members is running the show here this year.  She, and her band The Rage will perform two days.

Below is video I took from top of the ladder on our travel trailer, shows a bit of the RV's and tents here on what I would guess is 40 acres.

This is flyer for the festival.  One change - The Dalton Gang quit earlier this year and they are being replaced by Classy Grassy, whoever they are.

Well, it is after 4 pm now and will find the assembled people where the Pot-Luck supper is to be.  Afterward will be open stage and then a couple of the professional groups will perform.

Thought For The Day – I know how it will end for me. One of my kids or grandkids will unplug my life support to charge their phone.

A day in Branson, MO

93 degrees with a feel like of 103º and a good shower coming down here at Starvy Creek Park near Conway, Missouri at 3:30 pm Tuesday.

We pulled in here Sunday afternoon about 6 pm and got a pretty good site.  We are only about 100 feet from the stage and 50 feet from a shower house and 25 feet from restrooms.  What more could we need?  I would guess there are well over 300 units here now with more coming in all the time.  We walked the grounds Sunday and I would guess it covers 40 acres or more.

We left here for Branson (about 75 miles south) at 8:15 am and got back at 11:230 pm yesterday.  Had a good visit with our friend Steve Baldridge with the Goldwing Express before they went on stage.

Good comedy with a lot of audience participation.  They were fussin' and fuedin over lots of things.

At left is the crew serving us supper: Menu:
Potato Soup, BBQ Pulled Pork, & Roasted  Chicken Drumstick, Green Beans, Mac ‘n ‘ Cheese, Confetti Cake, Dinner Roll, Choice of Beverage

After arriving in Branson in the morning, picking up Shepherd's of the Hills tickets and then some shopping we had lunch at a Wendy's and booked a 2:00 show of Faith's Journey.  With the hectic traffic, we got to our seats just as the lights came up and show started.  A husband and wife,

Getting out of the show 3 1/2 hours before the show with Goldwing, we found a huge building with tons of booths as a flea market.  And, it was air conditioned inside!  With the temp in the upper 90's this was a good way to wait out time to go to our supper and the show.

The Cabbage/Cabage Family Reunion in Eureka Springs, Arkansas

73º and pleasant here at the Starvy Creek Bluegrass Festival grounds near Conway, Missouri at 10:15 am on Sunday.

Last Thursday we left Clarinda in a light rain about 7:15 am and then ran in to torrential rain going south on Highway 71 with high winds.  Just north of Maryville, MO we saw several fields of corn that were flattened by the wind.  We stopped in Independence, MO for a short visit, and lunch, with Ed Stanger.  He has had quite a bout with his health issues.  Has a nurse come in 3 days a week and drain fluid from his lungs through a tube they surgically implanted a few months ago.

We set up at Dam Site River Campground which is below the dam that forms Beaver lake southwest of Eureka Springs, Arkansas some 12 miles by road, but takes 24 minutes to traverse it.  There is not a single yard of road that does not curve, rise or fall in that entire areas!  Though we could get cell phone service in town, we could get none, zilch, nada, NO service at the campsite.  If you tried to make a call it simple said "You are not connected to any service".

We got to a room at a hotel in Eureka Springs a little after 7 pm where several of the Cabbage/Cabage family were, and more came as the evening went on.  Pictured at right is John V Cabage, who has been in charge of putting on the reunions every year for many years, along with his wife Marianne.  This year they turned over much of this year's organization to some of the younger generations.

They outlined some activities for the following day, Friday, which included a tour of Onyx Cave Park, Quigley's Castle, Turtle Back Ridge Family Fun Park, or Eureka Springs Tram Tour.  We elected to go to the Quigley Castle Click HERE for website -  This is a very unique house - 3 sides of it are 2-story high glass with plants of all sorts growing.  I took many photos and, with time, get many more of them edited and post.

We went with John, Jr, Cabage and his wife Sue and daughter Hannah.

We went to lunch with them and Phyllis & I went on the 1:00 pm Eureka Springs Tram Tour while they went with another couple on the 3:00 pm tour.  After our tour we drove around the downtown part where our tour guide had described the area.  He said Ripley's Believe it or Not company had declared Eureka Springs to not have one intersection on a 90-degree angle.  The town is build on such hills that many homes have as many as 3 stories with each one having a walk-out door.  Many of the houses we drove by we were looking at the 3rd floor, with the 2nd and 1st being below the street, but on the steep hillside.

The guide made the entire 1 and a half-hour tour very interesting; wish I had recorded him.  Have many pictures and will get the edited and post sometime.

Friday evening we gathered at LaFamilia Mexican Restaurant where there were about 24 gathered.

Visited over and after the meal and then we headed back to the trailer.  The road is unbelievable; I seldom got lower than 3rd gear or over 30 mph, even though they had a 50 MPH speed limit posted.  Almost a half-hour drive even though we covered 12 miles.

Saturday some 45-50 people met at a shelter set on the lake.  They were from Missouri, Illinois, Oklahoma, Iowa, Ohio, Tennessee, Indiana, and  Kentucky.  Many of the younger people only came on Saturday, and mostly stuck to their own group.  But, Phyllis was able to visit with many.

They are going to have 2024 near Washburn, TN and 2025 in a town just northeast of Columbus, OH.

We picked up the trailer and drove north, getting to the site here for the Starvy Creek Bluegrass Festival about 5:30 pm.  Lots of trailer already here, but we were able to get a really good site only some 100 feet from the stage and 25 feet from restrooms and showers.  We plan to go to Branson Monday and see Goldwing Express at the Shephard of the Hills tomorrow evening.

More later, Lynn
