WOW -- from 98º to 70º

70º with overcast skies here in Kenwood RV - La Feria, TX at 12 Noon on Monday.  Reached 98º yesterday on our outdoor thermometer, but cool front came through and 8-14 mph wind out of north sure changed things.

Bug man - Sniper Pest Control - is doing many of the units here in Kenwood RV Park today.  He sprays inside the house and under the units to take care of any critters, but especially keep away termites in the ground.

Jamie Layton, from Branson, MO with deep bass voice, performed very entertaining program at the Rec Hall last night.  Last year he performed at our park with a quartet--usually performing most of the year with the quartet around Branson.

Aloe Vera plant that we put in the ground about 10 years ago near the back door is starting to bloom.  Haven't seen it do that very often, though I just looked on Google and it reported they bloom once or twice a year....!!!

My oldest brother, Roger, turned 86 years old yesterday.  Here is a picture one of their daughter's put on face book.  Happy Birthday, again, Roger.

This may explain why the dumbass democrats killed the Keystone Pipeline.  Money applied to politicians gets favors..........and we are all paying extra dollars at the gas pumps so Berkshire Hathaway can profit.

Here we are nearly mid-March

88º with very bright sunshine and high winds here in La Feria, TX at 1:00 pm Saturday.  Prediction is for 97º tomorrow before a bit of a cool down to high of 73º on Monday.

Was up at 4:10 am Thursday with a call to take our friend Darlene to hospital ER.  She woke up with no feeling or use of her right arm.  Phyllis spent all day at the hospital with her while the did various tests.  Affirmed it was a stroke, but "mild".  Tests showed area of stroke with a small area around it of "dead cells".  Phyllis was with her most of Friday, the 10th, but came home mid-afternoon because they were waiting to do another test so many hours after she had eaten.  We did our "mini-celebration" of our 60th Wedding Anniversary by eating out at Las Vegas Café in Harlingen

last evening and then went back to the hospital.  Las Vegas is a very traditional Mexican-American family-owned restaurant that we try to get to each year.  This was the first this season.

Darlene is regaining quite a bit of feeling and some strength in her right arm, and leg.  They haven't determined what caused the stroke, and are leaning towards having her transferred to their rehab unit right there on the same floor in the hospital.  Will see how that turns out.

Just finished slicing up last half of another watermelon.  Really delicious.

.

A picture I copied from granddaughter Ashley's Facebook page.  They had a bit of snow the last few days and Heath and the kids made this snowman.

This is Valley Baptist Hospital where Phyllis has spent last several days with Darlene.  Phyllis will be heading down there after bit.

We all get heavier as we get older,
because there's a lot more information in our heads.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

If you are going to try cross-country skiing, start with a small country.

I know I got a lot of exercise
the last few years,......
just getting over the hill.

I do have flabby thighs,
but fortunately my stomach covers them.

The advantage of exercising every day is so when you die, they'll say, 'Well, he looks good doesn't he.'

Hope to get back to this and make another post sometime!  LC

Very hot, and windy

82º here in Kenwood RV at 5:48 pm Wednesday -- reached 90º earlier, with a lot of wind.  Steady 20-25 with gusts to 35 and above.

Local weatherman said last night that we have been running 12º above normal high temperatures for this area and time of year.

Replaced all three tires & tubes on my recumbent trike yesterday.

A look out the upper kitchen window into the Texas Room today.

Our Men & Women of A-Chord Barbershop Chorus has been meeting once a month at an Italian Restaurant in McAllen for lunch.  It was decided that this month our 86-year old Tenor Izzy Waldschmidt was going to host a BBQ at her place in Llano Grande RV.  Yesterday she provided a bit of a crude drawing to get to her place and lamented that not everyone was there yesterday so they wouldn't see her drawing.  I told her I would send it out to the all-chorus email list that I keep the
chorus informed of bookings, and upcoming performances.  I used Google Maps to get scaled maps and then drove to her park to to see for sure.  She is getting hotdogs and hamburgers and making pies for desert.  We all are bringing side-dishes and chairs next Tuesday at the normal time we have practice.  Will go over the performance we are to do the following night and then have our get-together BBQ.

Few photos of our Barbershop Chorus practice yesterday in McAllen, TX

Been getting vegetables every week from Joe "The Veggie Man" when he comes to the par each Friday afternoon.  Last couple watermelons from him have been some of the best watermelons that we remember.

I have been trying to regularly cut from the Bougenvelia behind our house and the red vase has flowers off the "border fence" between our park and the new Fuel Station on our south side.

Last Monday Phyllis had her
nails done downtown by her usual

nail lady - a Vietnamese lady.

Got roped into playing shuffleboard Tuesday morning.  My team lost the first game by 65 points, but only 57 on the second game.  At least we got some exercise out of it!

Sunday evening's entertainment at the Rec Hall was The Real Beale -- a one-man band from Guthrie Center, IA with his wife singing with him on many songs.

With his several cymbals, bass drum, snare drum, guitar, and harmonica he put on quite a performance.  No "canned" music and his music was very good.  Excellent guitarist, good voice and with his wife's singing did a very good show.  He spent quite a bit of time telling about how he got into this, with the first outfit weighing about 45 lbs.  He has this revised outfit down to 35 lbs., and was still working up quite a sweat during his show.  You can see quite a few of his videos by CLICKING HERE
Can you imagine driving this
road in the dark in a rain or
snow storm?

We are already making plans for our moving from this house to our summer house around the end of this month.

Will let you know what is going on again soon.

Very hot and windy here in Rio Grande Valley

85º with 25 mph winds here in La Feria at 11:05 am Wednesday.  Now, at 2:15 pm Wednesday, it is 94º , with 25 mph winds and bright sunshine here in the valley.

You can see we are in for some hot days.  I mentioned in last blog that we finally turned on the air conditioner.  It will remain on for some time it looks like.

Was interrupted by our good friend Mary Jo Herzberg, from Villisca, IA, coming with her two daughters and one son-in-law.  Visited a bit at our place, showed them our house and Texas Room.

Then, Mary Jo got in with us and the other three followed as we drove down to Emerald Grove park where she and Oliver stayed many, many winters.  Drove through the park so she could see some of the old places and spotted Tony, who did own and manage the park when they were there.  She was able to visit with him.  His grandson runs the park now and Tony is retired, but he still messes with cleanup, etc.  She said Tony told her they take several cruises each year and are really enjoying retirement.

Mary Jo rode with us as we drove down Business 83 and through some of Harlingen, reminiscing about a lot of places, etc.  We ended up in San Benito at the Longhorn Cattle Company for Barbecue lunch.  Lots of food and most of us have at least one more meal to eat from leftovers.

Got my hair trimmed
the other day.

Monday the people who regularly play bingo on Monday evenings bought pizza for themselves and spouses or partners.  Ed Stanger was still "in charge" with Denise's help, and helped by Dave had lots of pizza and salads for all.  I didn't stay for the bingo itself, but there was some pretty high prize money awarded during the evening.

On Monday the Kenwood Dirt Devils, a radio controlled car club that meets at the track here in the park, put on a hotdog luncheon, for donations.  Had a pretty good turnout, including quite a few guys from out of our park who work with the Dirt Devils.

These pretty flowers are in front of Lawrence Ferguson's place.  He is from Ansley, Nebraska, in Custer County.

Have pot-luck supper tonight.  Phyllis has quilting tomorrow morning.  We are going to Mexico to have our teeth cleaned on Friday.  Will go to Port Isabel late Saturday afternoon to meet Mary Jo and her kids at Pirate's Landing.  She and one daughter will be flying back to Iowa this Sunday.

There you have it!

Later, Lynn
