Nice weekend

43º outside at 9:30 am Monday here in Clarinda - high to be 58º with chance of rain later this evening and pretty sure rain overnight.

Saturday morning we drove to Omaha via Highway 2 and I-29.  Lot of water.  I-29 just opened a week or so ago after being closed some 6 weeks from flooding.  Was one lane for a ways, some places, but traffic moved well.  We had been getting I-29 Detour traffic on Highway 71 just a couple blocks from our house for some time.

Phyllis' oldest niece, Ann Gregory, graduated from High School Sunday night and had a party at her parent's , Chris & Becky Gregory, house near Boys Town in Omaha.

After leaving Gregory's we stopped at Costco in Omaha and Aldi's in Council Bluffs.  Just got in the pickup after Aldi's and it started to rain; rained on us all the way home.
Practicing before service at the Methodist Church.
This was joint Westminster Presbyterian and First
United Methodist choirs singing.

After the 8:45 am service at the Methodist Church we went to the Westminster Presbyterian church for their 10:45 am service.

After singing at the second service we went to the local Runza Restaurant with many from the Methodist Church for lunch.  Then we went to local mortuary for visitation of mother of friend Steve Miller.
Well, only 150 days and we will be back in our Kenwood home.  With the temps in the 40's here wondering if should have stayed in Texas; but, the temps there all this week will be in the upper 90's so maybe that is too far the other way!

73 days until we leave for our extended trip in July including Indianola and State Center, IA; Columbus, OH; West Branch, MI; Door County, WI; Pine River, MN with many stops during the trip.                                                                                                                                              GROANER'S CORNER:(( Laws::

A distraught senior citizen phoned her doctor's office.

"Is it true," she wanted to know,   "that the medication you prescribed has to be taken
for the rest of my life?"
"'Yes, I'm afraid so,"' the doctor told her.
There was a moment of silence before the senior lady replied,  "I'm wondering, then,
just how serious is my condition because this prescription is marked 'NO REFILLS'.."

Busy week

85º with a "feel like" OF 88º here in Clarinda, IA at 3:00 pm Friday afternoon.
It has looked like snow almost on the ground the last couple days.  Maple seeds are fluttering down everywhere and if we quit mowing the lawn we would have a maple forest.

Wednesday afternoon LaDonna Cabbage and Joyce Tornholm came to visit while Phyllis' sister Beth and husband Steve were here.

Chives by the back deck

Wednesday morning had breakfast uptown at the Garrison House with the Gregory's, the C. E. and Carol Hornbuckle from Shenandoah and Patty Steckelberg from Shenandoah.  CE is related to Steve and Carol grew up with Patty.  It was also Patty's birthday so we celebrated that.

Wednesday, at 6 PM we went to Choir Practice at the Methodist Church.  The Westminster Presbyterian Choir practiced with us and we will both sing at both churches this Sunday.

After Choir practice we ate supper at J Bruners in Clarinda with Beth & Steve.  Also got to visit with several of their friends who stopped to visit.

Cussed grass keeps growing so got to mow Wednesday again.
Few iris bloomed near the deck.
Used to have irises on the east side of the
front yard, but they seem to have disappeared.

Company from Colorado and Washington

77º here in Clarinda, IA at 3:30 pm Tuesday.

Phyllis' sister, Beth and her husband Steve Gregory arrived just after lunch today from Grand Lake, CO.  They will be here until Thursday.
Phyllis' cousin Judy Huer stopped by with her sons Scott & Russ Heuer for a bit.  They were taking Russ to Omaha for flight back to Arlington, Washington.  He has been here just the weekend.

Monday noon we went to Judy Heuer's place and ate fish caught by Jared and Russ Heuer along with deep-fried potato strings Russ cooked.
Judy's sisters, Joyce Tornholm from New Market, and Jan Frye from near Lincoln, NE, came to see Russ as he moved to Washington state a couple years ago and had flown back here for Mother's day.

I started this yesterday afternoon, but got side-tracked.  Is now 8:15 am Wednesday.  Lots has happened since the above, but will close now and pick up later.

Little more rain

54º here in Clarinda at 7:15 pm Sunday -- Phooey with the no rain in the forecast.  Got another .25" overnight.  And, here is the sky to the southwest when we came home from church, but hasn't rained since.

After lunch Saturday we drove to Villisca to the Lutheran Church where Mavis Herzberg was celebrating her 80th birthday.  Got to see and visit with many people, though there were people still coming when we left.  Were expecting Cam's sometime in the afternoon.

Just starting

Saturday evening fixed some steaks
on the grill for the Bazes, Cams, Ash & Jessica.
'Bout ready for the dinner table.
Though it was a bit chilly, they visited a bit on the deck
while I finished with the steaks.

This morning we ate at the Chinese Buffet in Clarinda.  Fern joined us, but Fred, not caring for Chinese food didn't.

After Cam's took Fern home, they returned for some left-over food items and picked up their stuff and headed back to eastern Iowa.  Jessica had to sit and think about whether she wanted to go home.........................................

This being Mother's Day, was good to have the kids here.  Michelle called later in the afternoon and visited with her mother.  Also talked with her about our visiting her the 10th to 12th of August.  That will be part of a trip that will include our seeing the Kenwood folks at State Center at the Summer Rally the first week of August, visiting Darlene Winslow in Michigan, spending time in Door County Wisconsin, attending a Bluegrass Festival in Pine River, MN, visiting Dick & Deanne Messer and Bob & Bobi Raab in Minnesota before heading back to southwest Iowa.

Here is a gem I picked up on Facebook this Mother's Day:

When God created woman he was working late on the 6th day.......
An angel came by and asked." Why spend so much time on her?"
The lord answered. "Have you seen all the specifications I have to meet to shape her?"
She must function on all kinds of situations,
She must be able to embrace several kids at the same time,
Have a hug that can heal anything from a bruised knee to a broken heart,
She must do all this with only two hands,"She cures herself when sick and can work 18 hours a day"
THE ANGEL was impressed "Just two hands.....impossible!
And this is the standard model?"
The Angel came closer and touched the woman
"But you have made her so soft, Lord".
"She is soft", said the Lord,
"But I have made her strong. You can't imagine what she can endure and overcome."
"Can she think?" The Angel asked...
The Lord answered. "Not only can she think, she can reason and negotiate."
The Angel touched her cheeks....
"Lord, it seems this creation is leaking! You have put too many burdens on her"
"She is not leaking...it is a tear" The Lord corrected the Angel…
"What's it for?" Asked the Angel..... .
The Lord said. "Tears are her way of expressing her grief, her doubts, her love, her loneliness, her suffering and her pride."...
This made a big impression on the Angel,
"Lord, you are a genius. You thought of everything.
A woman is indeed marvellous"
Lord said."Indeed she is.
She has strength that amazes a man.
She can handle trouble and carry heavy burdens.
She holds happiness, love and opinions.
She smiles when she feels like screaming.
She sings when she feels like crying, cries when happy and laughs when afraid.
She fights for what she believes in.
Her love is unconditional.
Her heart is broken when a next-of-kin or a friend dies but she finds strength to get on with life"
The Angel asked: "So she is a perfect being?"
The lord replied: "No. She has just one drawback
She often forgets what she is worth."
