54th Wedding Anniversary

73º here in La Feria, TX at 9 am Friday as I start this.  Rained much of yesterday - dumped .6" of rain from the gauge last evening -- prediction for rain off-and-on most of today and tomorrow.

This photo was taken of us in October of 1962, not long after we started dating.  We met at CE School of Commerce in Omaha, Nebraska.  I came the 200+ miles east from the edge of the Nebraska Sand-hills and she came north-west the 80 miles from southwest Iowa.

As you can see, we have changed little from our wedding day March 10, 1963 at the Church of God in Shambaugh, Iowa.
This picture taken a few minutes ago............maybe we have changed a little.

She has Red-Hat luncheon at noon and I am going out with the Red-Hat bachelors.

Will probably go out this evening, but haven't decided where.  She works most of the day at the office today, other than the Choir Practice at 10:00 am and the break for the Red-Hat thingy.

Yesterday she took a break from the office to work with the Share & Care group making quilts and then at 11:30 took a break from that and we went shopping for the food for Saturday morning's breakfast at the Rec Hall and some other supplies.  Waiting in line at the Harlingen Sam's Club in the photo at right.

Before heading back to Kenwood we ate at Panda Express (Click Here for website)  Always enjoy their food.

Above photos are from last night at the Rec Hall playing Bean-Bag Baseball.  Had a nice turnout considering all the people who have left the park.

On Wednesday evening we went to Butch Geisking's home for Pegs & Jokers.

Still working on the wall in the Texas room.  More later, Lynn

Back to sunny

87º with bright sun and 22 mph winds here in La Feria, TX at 4:45 pm as I start this on Monday.  Ended up with .7" of rain from Saturday afternoon into early Sunday.  Much needed here.

Got under the mobile home yesterday and removed last of the aluminum guttering I had put under there some 6 years ago -- thinking I would use it on the Texas room then building.  I didn't.
Some of the guttering was 12 foot long.

Here is most of it in the pickup.  I added another layer of some ferrous metal and this morning took them to the salvage yard in Mercedes, TX

We had the monthly Park Members meeting this morning at the Rec Hall.

This is Phyllis with the choir just before church yesterday in the Rec Hall.

After church we went with Neher's and Raab's to Santa Rosa for Brunch.

Well, we are in to our last month in our Texas home.  Hard to believe this is our 5th month here.  Planning on our travels to Clarinda the first of April -- plan to spend a day or two in the Hill Country northwest of San Antonio and other than that just boogey home, probably off the Interstate.  Plan on couple nights at a park in Blanco, Texas; one night in Chickashaw, OK and one night near Eureka, Kansas.

Park is getting "emptier" as RV's are pulling out almost daily heading up north.  After getting a little more space in our Texas room from the yard sale Saturday I am getting some things moved around and more work done on the walls.  One of these days will be doing all the things we need to do to close up the place for 7 months.

This just came across Facebook - our granddaughter Emmy with
her niece Jessica - looks like warm weather in eastern Iowa this weekend.

Finally, Rain

66º and raining at 3:54 pm Saturday as I start this.

This was earlier this morning, as we had the annual March Yard Sale here in the RV Park.
We set things out Friday afternoon and I sold my table saw, portable work bench, extension ladder, sabre saw, 10 lattice work panels, old rolls of new carpet yesterday afternoon.  Didn't take a photo when first set up - sold within an hour to people who live in the park or workers in the park.
Last night we ate at a downtown buffet in La Feria and then went to the Friendship Room to play Pegs and Jokers.  At left is Lynda Foote, from Topeka, KS, Herald Nehere from Hiawatha, KS, Phyllis, and Dough Salzwedel from Hastings, MN.
At left is Bill Van Oenen from Lowbanks, Ontario, Betty Salzwedel from Hastings, MN and Don Foote from Topeka, KS.
At left is Phyllis, Dough Salzwedel, LaRhoda Neher from Hiawatha, KS and Bill Van Oenen.

Last of our group is Theresa Van Oenen from Lowbanks, Ontario

Well, once again, I got side-tracked -- it is 6:30 pm now.  I checked the rain gauge about 5:15 and we had .3" of rain at that time and it has rained continually since.  We only had about 4" of rain since mid-November so this rain is welcome.

Our next-door neighbors LaRhoda and Harold Nehere visited a while as we were sitting out with our yard sale stuff yesterday.

Thursday was the Appreciation Day put on by Corporate RHP who own Kenwood RV Park.  Phyllis, as Activity Director, had worked on it for better than a week and all day Thursday.
One of the first events (after about an hour delay for an Ambulance to come in to pick up a lady who fell and broke an arm and a leg) was the parade of "funny costumes.  Phyllis has the big hat and pink blouse with red pants.

She is talking with Butch, who was later given 1st Prize as best costume.

They had several golf-cart races.  Here one of the guys, with his
battery powered 3-wheeler raced.  He came in a distant 2nd.

Several people tried the obstacle course with driver
blind-folded and passenger verbally giving directions
.

There are 20-some guys with radio controlled cars in the park.
They had a lot of runs, both straight out races and then
figure-8 races.  Many bumps into each other and roll-overs.

Lining up to start a drag-race

Oh, this is Phyllis about 7:30 am mixing up the 16-20 lbs of Pasta for the lunch
Though the temperature was in the upper 60's they went ahead
with the water balloon toss.  Some got wet.

The sit-down cake walk had about 20 cakes awarded (I got one!)
By 2:30 or so we were inside - local La Feria Police force gave a presentation on Crime Watch.
Then some 5 or 6 timed games around the room - stacking pennies, putting weighted pop cans in
order, guessing prices of some items, moving cups, putting odd shaped things in holes, etc.  Then was time for the hot dog, pasta, and baked bean lunch.

With around 160 people, it took a while to go through the line

The office help served the meal.  The Park Manager, Rosie, is in the pink.

Phyllis and Robert (the Maintenance Man) bringing out the baked beans.
Phyllis gave out a lot of "joke" awards, the winners for the various games, and the drawing prizes which we had gotten donated from many merchants in the area.

Almost forgot this photo of the pinata that had been put on Facebook by the Manager.  It was broken hanging from a tree outdoors.  Contained Mexican candy. This is Phyllis and Elva, the cleaning lady for the park, putting the candy in.

Well, it is almost 7:30 pm and still raining.  Phyllis has rested much of the day.  We did go a few blocks into town to El Centro, the local grocery store, for their appreciation day at noon for a hot dog, and changed the signs out front of the Park from Yard Sale to Entertainment for tomorrow evening.

More later, Lynn

March is here!

Well, it is 72 degrees at 7:21 am Wednesday as I start this.
A few things have happened since last post.
Phyllis giving announcements before Ice Cream
Sunday evening, after helping serve Ice Cream we stayed for the entertainment - Men Of A Chord out of McAllen, Texas  CLICK HERE FOR WEB SITE  This is barber shop harmony with a large group and then they had some 4 or 5 quartets perform at the "break".

They invited anyone to join them at their practice on Tuesday and I drove over there yesterday afternoon.  It is good to sing with people who can read the music and sing it well (comparing with the guys in the church choir here at the Rec Hall who just bumble along).  Thinking about joining their group.  They perform 4 more times this year and then start practicing again in November.  Since all they sing is without music in front of them it will be a while before I can perform with them, if I can memorize the music.
Did get another section of wall
in the Texas Room finished.

Wall finished earlier

Took Patty to the airport yesterday morning and she is back in Iowa now.  Her month stay seemed to go pretty fast
Had the fold-up bike out for her to ride while she was here -- put it back in the bag and in the storage area over the shop until next February.

Empty spots as people are starting to pull their RV's and go home -
this taken from our front steps..
Saturday we went to South Padre Island to "Market Days" at
their big convention center.  The ladies got several things.

After Market Days we stopped at the Sea Turtle Rescue Center

Lots of tanks of recuperating turtles, or turtles that cannot be
returned to the sea for some reason.
