January 'bout gone

75º with overcast skies here in Kenwood at 1:00 pm Friday.

These houses here in the park for sale now.

If William's sells, they will be coming back in their 5th wheel.

If Maxine Koch's sells she will stay with Judy.

Nothing much going on.  Still waiting on rain.  Did have to shut the windows a couple nights ago and turn on the furnace.  Twenty-fifth was 71st birthday of my sister Louise.  Will be 13 years this May since she left us.  Twenty-eighth was 3 months since we arrived here --- another two months and we will probably be heading north.

GROANER'S CORNER:((  A kindergarten student was having trouble putting on his boots and asked his teacher for help. Even with her pulling and him pushing, the boots still didn't want to go on. Finally, they got both boots on. She grimaced when the little boy said, "They're on the wrong feet."  Sure enough, they were. The teacher kept her cool as together they worked to get the boots back on - this time on the correct feet. The little boy then announced, "These aren't my boots." The teacher sighed and pulled the boots off.  The boy then said, "They're my brother's boots. My Mom made me wear them."  The teacher felt like crying, but she mustered up the strength to wrestle the boots back onto his feet. "Now," she said, "where are your mittens?"  The boy replied, "I stuffed them in my boots...."

A new hair salon opened up for business right across the street from the old established hair cutters' place.  They put up a big bold sign which read: "WE GIVE SEVEN DOLLAR HAIR CUTS!"  Not to be outdone, the old Master Barber put up his own sign: "WE FIX SEVEN DOLLAR HAIR CUTS!"

A bit warm

70º partly cloudy here in south Texas at 10:00 am.  Was up to 87º yesterday and, for the first time in weeks, we had to close house windows and turn on air conditioning.  A "cold" front came through in the evening and it is to get to only 80º today by the forecast.

Here is a prime example of why we come to Texas in the winter...........................This picture was taken in Clarinda, IA

Rode 10 miles again yesterday on my recumbent.....there was enough of a breeze that it was not really uncomfortable.  Of course, it was T-shirt and short pants day.

Nothing new here.  Did help the Veggie Man set out his display on Friday----

Been a lot of racket in the old huge bank building just south east of our park.  The bank closed some 8 or so years ago.  Was told by a permanent resident here in the park that Circle K (a chain of service station/convenience stores has bought it and tearing down the building to put in their gas/diesel service station.

All for now, Lynn

Received our first Covid-19 vaccine shot today

63ºwith heavy fog -- which has been in place all day -- at 9:00 pm Thursday.

Left our house a little before 7 am this morning and drove the 30 miles south-east to Los Fresnos, TX to the rodeo grounds where Los Fresnos has a new large Fire Department building on spacious grounds.  We were in line on the highway for some 25 minutes and finally got onto the grounds just before 8 am along with probably nearly a thousand other cars, for receiving the first Covid-19 vaccine shot.

Sat in line for about 3.5 hours then only about 10 minutes to drive up to the building.

I did not take the following photos, but took them off Cameron County web site of the action last Wednesday in the same building.

It was nearly noon when we left, after waiting a bit and talking with an EMS guy who said if we were to have an adverse reaction it would have probably taken place within 3 minutes.  I write this a little after 9 pm and arm is just a bit tender, but no real problems.  We drove the 15 miles or so on towards the coast to Port Isabel and ate shrimp at Pelican Station.  One of only about 5 times we have eaten in a restaurant this winter.

Was also the first time, in the nearly 3 months we have been here that we ate shrimp.  One of the reasons we come here usually.  When things are opened up next winter am sure we will be eating in restaurants more.  The only other times we ate in a restaurant  this winter was when we were coming back from the innumerable teeth works in Progreso.

Afterwards, before we headed for Kenwood, we stopped at one of our favorite stores in Port Isabel.

Lots of really fine things inside the store.

Would like, sometime, to get some of

these wall decorations.

This was my supper this evening.

We had set in line over 4 hours
on Wednesday to get these
vouchers to let us in at Los Fresnos
today.

This is the pass we were given to show at the building after we were interviewed and given signed papers while still waiting in the lot in our vehicles.

We are to be notified where we get the second Covid-19 shot on February 18th.

January 17th

71º with heavy overcast skies in La Feria, TX at 11:30 am on Sunday.

Here are photos of some of the reasons we come south in the winter:

These were taken at our home in Clarinda, IA

Been a lot of burning of the sugar cane fields lately and here are some of the droppings from those fires.

Here is one of the burns.
Suppose that spare will do any good?

Rain clouds a few moments ago.  Sprinkled some
so we came in.  Got 5 miles done, 5 to go.

Neighbor got insurance adjuster to pay for new roof account
of hurricane that went through this last summer - 20 year old
roof and was paid in full!
They got these buildings covered last weekend, but
still no shingles or siding.

Quite a few trailers, 5th-wheels, and motorhomes in the park since the first of January. I did another video of the couple streets the units are on -- for those of you that are familiar with the park -- here is the LINK   I am still doing about 10 miles a day on the trike. Our only activity is going to grocery store every 10 days or so.
Just found out this morning that Don Foote passed away in the hospital in Harlingen last evening.  He had been in the hospital for last week or so.

"Paint" by numbers - on the smartphone

Recent weeks I got into several apps of paint by numbers and Phyllis also picked up on it.  Our phones are tied together, so saved pictures...
