Windy is the word today

78º heavy clouds with 30 mph winds out of the south here at La Feria, TX at 11:30 am Monday as I start this.  Click any photo to enlarge.
This guy was zipping down the street in Harlingen the other day.

Finally getting some 1"x 2" boards painted to finish the ceiling
in the Texas room.

Two books I bought from a Vietnam Veteran at DonWes Flea Market on Saturday.  He has written some 6 books, all set and printed by himself.  Puts a lot of himself growing up in Ohio and the way it was when he got back home from Vietnam in what little I have read so far.  I intend to send them to my brother Darrell when I finish reading them.

Yesterday, Sunday, I drove to Paradise Park in Pharr to sing with the Men of A-Chord group.  Picked up Denny Hill and his wife Irma at Snow to Sun RV Park and took them.  Had only about 50 in the audience ant that included probably 15 or so wives of our group.  Phyllis was in charge of entertainment here at Kenwood where Terry Smith performed.  Since I missed him then we will drive over to Donna on Tuesday evening to see him perform at an RV Park there.

GROANER’S CORNER:(( A police officer sees a man driving around with a pickup truck full of penguins. He pulls the guy over and says, "You can't drive around with penguins in this town! Take them to the zoo immediately."  The guy obliges and drives away.  The next day, the officer sees the same guy driving around with the truck full of penguins again. This time, though, all the penguins are wearing sunglasses.  The police officer pulls the guy over and says, "I thought I told you to take these penguins to the zoo yesterday?"  The guy replies, "I did, and today I'm taking them to the beach."

A man is at work one day when he notices that his co-worker is wearing an earring.  This man knows his co-worker to be a normally conservative fellow, and is curious about his sudden change in "fashion sense."  The man walks up to him and says, "I didn't know you were into earrings."  "Don't make such a big deal out of this, it's only an earring," he replies sheepishly.  His friend falls silent for a few minutes, but then his curiosity prods him to say, "So, how long have you been wearing one?"
"Ever since my wife found it in my truck..."

After Valentine's supper/program

78º at 11:30 Thursday morning.  Phyllis was busy all day yesterday getting prepared for the Valentines supper and show.  (Click on photos to enlarge)

By vote of the residents over the last week or so, our

Something around 160 people were anxiously waiting in the lobby area and we finally opened the door about 5:34 pm when Juan had finally showed up with his camera.  He took photos of each couple as they entered.  Phyllis checked the people off the list according to the ticket numbers they held and had me give them small papers with "fish" or 'beef" for them to place on the table for the servers.   I then had them pose for the camera in front of a background put on the wall.  This was not always an easy task---if you have ever told older people what to do, you may know how that goes.  Then sisters Judy and Maxine helped the people to there seats - one group of 8 or so insisted on being together and they were at the back of the hall, which proved to be good.  We had about an hour and 15 minute program by Ed Couch - Elsa High School kids

and that table, heavily imbibing adult beverages before they got there and all during the evening, talked - and not quietly - during the entire music program.  They had no qualms about carrying on their own thing, not listening themselves so assumed that no one around them wanted to hear either.

I shall never ever be in a group with this bunch again.
(who gather at one of their RV's every afternoon to drink)

Because this was Ash Wednesday and many Catholics indicated they would not attend if fish was not served, the caterers broke their rule of not serving fish (harder to prepare ahead, drive the 45 minutes to location and keep in good condition).  They had offered beef and fish and it was carried out well.  Both meals were good.  My fish was great and Phyllis couldn't finish the ample portion of beef, so I had to help out with that.

I made video of about 45 minutes of the music.  Can't upload it to the blog, but may get it on my You-Tube channel.
Phyllis had the Sew & Share ladies do their drawing for quilts
that had been in raffle for some time.

Nearly time to go down to the hall with the pickup to haul the tote boxes back to the storage shed for the Sew & Share ladies.

GROANER’S CORNER:((  Have you heard about the guys who drove their pickup truck into a lumberyard? One of them walked in the office and said, "We need some four-by-twos."  "You mean two-by-fours, don't you?" the clerk said.  "Let me go check," replied the man, and he went back to the truck.  "Yeah, I meant two-by-fours," he said, returning a few moments later. "Alright. How long do you need them?"  The customer paused for a minute to think and then finally said, "I'd better go check."  After awhile he returned to the office and said, "A long time. We're building a house."

Summer vacation was over and the teacher asked Little Johnny about his family trip. "We visited my grandmother in Minneapolis, Minnesota." The teacher asked, "Good, can you tell the class how you spell that?"  Little Johnny thought for a few seconds and said, "Actually, we went to Ohio."

Patty went with me this morning to a lumber yard where I got some more 1" x 2" strips to finish the ceiling in the Texas Room.  Also drove west to the Aloe Farm where got couple cases of the liquid Aloe to last us until next Fall.  Was very foggy when driving this morning, but has lightened up now at 4:00 pm.  Phyllis has been working hard all day at getting the hall ready for the Catered Valentine supper tonight and the entertainment that will be presented.  Will go down early to help her check the tickets in and help with getting proper food tickets to match what the people ordered.  Think she has about 170 people coming.

GROANER’S CORNER:((  A small two-seater Cessna 152 plane crashed into a cemetery early this afternoon in central Poland. Polish search and rescue workers have recovered 300 bodies so far and expect that number to climb as digging continues into the evening.
