Keeping busy in the Rio Grande Valley

74º here in La Feria, TX at 7 pm Sunday.  Prediction for 94º as high next Wed-Thur-Fri!

Had a group "The Ambassador's" from Bibleville Conference Grounds in Alamo, TX perform at church here in Kenwood this morning.  They are a group going to their college there and plan to progress into the Missionary field; they are from Ecuador, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Chile.

After church, we - Phyllis, Patty and myself, went to South Padre Island - some 60 miles to the east, southeast.  Drove the island and stopped at a Farmers Market towards the north end of the populated area.

Strolled by some 20 or so booths, but did looking only.

The 2.5 mile-long causeway from Port Isabella to South Padre Island has construction, reducing the 4-lane traffic to only one lane each way at points.  We didn't have much trouble getting through, but know those later in the day were probably backed up pretty bad.

We ate lunch at The Pelican Station in Port Isabella and, after looking around the tourist-gift shop near there, stopped at South Texas Ecotourism Center along Highway 100 in Laguna Vista, TX on the way back home.  There website is HERE  Very interesting place, though we didn't spend the time to thoroughly look at all of it.

This 10 acre site has a collection of most living plants from the area, small statues and signage about all living wild animals in the area.

We walked quite a bit of the grounds, but did not go up the long ramp which gives a birds eye view of the area.

One of the local towns
have this Army unit
with the Police
Department now.

Since we had missed the Veggie Man at the park on Friday -- went to the west to our Men & Women of A-Chord Barbershop Chorus performance-- we stopped at the Veggie Man's setup at DonWes to get our week's supply of Veggies.

Had a good turnout and successful concert at Winter Green Estates RV Park in Mission Friday evening.

Saturday evening we played Pegs & Jokers at our house with Darlene, Patty, Phyllis & myself.

Were at several functions at the hall this week.

Wind & more wind here in South Texas

80º here in La Feria, TX at 11:30 am on Wednesday.  High winds again today as almost every day lately.  Dry in the area and with low humidity and high winds it is often that Fire Bans are announced.  Not that I burn anything outside here.

Seems if we are on the run always.  Had a Valentines dinner at the Rec Hall last evening.  Were at Barbershop Chorus practice in McAllen yesterday afternoon.  This morning I went into Harlingen for my annual Dermatologist Doctor checkup.  Drove to Pharr, TX early Monday morning for Board Meeting with the Men & Women of A-Chord breakfast and monthly meeting.  Took Patty & Darlene with us Monday to Weslaco at Gatti's Pizza for bingo and pizza with about 25 others from the Park.  The Park Management is putting on a (we pay) chicken barbeque this noon.

Here are a few pics I took of the sunrise as I drove west, south & west Monday morning.

'Nuther day in the Rio Grande Valley

75º with mostly cloudy skies in La Feria, TX at 1:45 pm Thursday.

We were able to return the 375 miles from Galveston last Saturday in time to change clothes and just make it another 25 miles on west to McAllen, TX to perform with our Men & Women of A-Chord Barbershop Chorus that evening.

One of the wives of our group videoed the program and I was able to get some still shots off those videos.

The performance was well attended and this audience seemed to really enjoy us and themselves with much applauding--even applauded some of Director Bob's jokes.

Attended church here in the park Sunday, I got my 3-month checkup with doctor in San Benito, TX on Monday and had a good practice with the barbershop chorus in McAllen, TX on Tuesday afternoon.   Wednesday morning I had oil changed in the pickup and tires rotated and then the four of us went grocery shopping in Harlingen - Darlene, Patty, Phyllis & myself.

They had a Birthdays for February in the afternoon yesterday, which Phyllis & Patty went to.  They both went to the quilting thingy (Care & Share) at the hall this morning; and I guess the three of us will go up to Meet & Greet at the Rec Hall at 4 pm today.

Back in Texas from our Cruise

77º with partly cloudy skies and very windy in the Rio Grande Valley at 5:00 pm on Monday.

Week ago Saturday, at 5:00 am we were headed up the road to Galveston, TX to board the Carnival Cruise Ship Vista.

After dropping the girls off with the luggage, I took the pickup about 3/4 mile to a storage lot where I rode back to the ship with bus provided by the parking lot.

It was getting on near 2:30 PM when we were on board and went directly to the Lido deck and had some lunch while waiting for our checked bags to be delivered to the rooms.

Sit-down meal in the evening in the Horizon Dining Room.

Went to orientation presentation in the "Liquid Lounge", the main stage of the ship.

Sunday morning we explored the ship in great sunshine.

Sunday afternoon was the first of six 2 to 4-hour programs that Steve Baldridge put on with his family's GoldWing Express bluegrass band from Branson, MO; Allen Sibley from Mississippi; Alex Leach from eastern Tennessee, and the Restored Gospel Band from Missouri.

After dinner Sunday evening we listened to several different entertainers, this group with violins in the Atrium area.

Will continue this.............
